Finally got some use out of the snowblower!

No, no snow, but it is adequate ballast for the big sections I'm dumping in the woods. Just have to be real careful with that boat hanging off the back. Fortunately no 'oops' yet. I just don't want to tear up the back yard more to get my ballast box.

We have had essentially zero snow so far this winter. I can't remember anything even close. Plenty of rain so the ground is soft.

Got a couple of good hours in today. Cut up a bunch of firewood sized logs with my new battery chainsaw. Used the grapple to haul a load of dead / starting to rot wood and drop it in the 'dry water course'. Seems a shame but anything on that trunk much over 16" (most of it) is going to get dumped in the woods.

I used this one from Amazon it got good reviews and it was real east to setup.

Amazon Camera Link
I just went to Amazon, and they have a new model for the same price with a 10" monitor. It can also accommodate up to 4 cameras. I am thinking of this one for when I am driving my antique car because the mirrors on that car are so small. The nicest part is that it appears that it can easily be transferred from vehicle to vehicle. thanks Dusty

No, quite the opposite. Only the top 20' or so of one of the big oaks was ratty. I'm guessing, about 4-5 years ago we had a lightning hit on that side of the house and that's what did it. I really don't know what killed 6 or 7 really big oaks a couple of years ago.
I spent a couple of hours cutting and hauling. More tomorrow.

Here is a pic of a trunk cut. It's about 50' from the base. These pieces are too large for me to handle when cut to 24-30" long pieces so I cut them to about 6' and dump them in the woods. Ya gotta love a grapple!

Beggars can't be choosers! Some neighbors watched my dogs this past weekend, stopping by four times a day for three days. They repeatedly drove over 4" to 5" of snow on the asphalt driveway and parking areas during their visits. It started to snow the morning I left so I knew I was going to be dealing with the aftermath for weeks to come.

Picture from yesterday but more of the same today.

Broken water service dig today didn't go as planned. We tried pulling the old line with tractor then 13 ton dump truck. No budge. Started digging back to the foundation, which, was actually a slabbed room and found a cistern. Change in plans to reroute the line out the side of the house next week. We did manage to save the Japanese thread leaf maple. At least I'll have my first job with the new mini-ex then.

I put one of the guys on the machine to start the day...he had some fun. I do really enjoy seeing them have a bit of fun on a hard job.

I was able to get 3 hours of seat time yesterday playing around with my tractor clearing snow off some of my two track trails. It was more of a nice tractor ride in mid-winter central Wisconsin than a real work day! Beautiful cool clear crisp air (15- 22 degrees) with sunny skies.

I can say that my L2501 with front bucket, no edge tamers, and too small box blade along with no chains and R4 tires is not the ideal snow removal machine for my trails. Had fun anyways! A good friend came with that enjoys cross county skiing and was able to hit the trails and log about 3 1/2 miles according to her smart phone.

Good job Ken! Nice to have access to the property in the dead of winter for sure. I have the basic same set up except for loaded R1's. I do have a set of heavy- duty chains for the 8N but haven't tried them for fit yet on the L2501 because they just aren't needed this winter so far.
Hoping they will work if needed when you price a new set of chains. Cold for both of us tonight with the extreme cold again. Cross your fingers it's the last of brutal temps.

Thanks for the good words! I did forget to mention that I have my rear r4's filled also. They just do not preform well in the deeper powder snow.
It is too late in the season for me to look for a better solution but I have two thoughts, since I have a third function perhaps a loader mounted snow blade. The other option is the tried and true back blade.

Enjoy your land and tractor, and stay warm! It looks like after tonight and tomorrow morning it will reach decent daytime temps again for this time of year.

sure - there is a load of it already gone, not retrievable in the woods. I still have about 100 linear feet of trunk to cut. I'll cut them to 5-6'. That may be the limit for my fel near the base (~3' diameter). When the weather warms up on Sunday I'll be back at it.
PM me when you want to come by. I'm in Cheshire.
