sure - there is a load of it already gone, not retrievable in the woods. I still have about 100 linear feet of trunk to cut. I'll cut them to 5-6'. That may be the limit for my fel near the base (~3' diameter). When the weather warms up on Sunday I'll be back at it.

Jump in there man. Harbor Freight has some MIG and/or multi-purpose welders that make learning pretty easy.

I have experience (amateur) with most forms of welding and my opinion MIG is the easiest to learn and the most versatile for us average guys. Some of the MIGs come with a spool gun to give you aluminum capability if that's important to you.

In addition to HFreight, Primweld has a 170 or 180 amp MIG that is a great machine. That company gives the longest warranties and has awesome customer service. I have two of their machines (60 amp plasma cutter and 225 amp TIG).

Here is a pic of a trunk cut. It's about 50' from the base. These pieces are too large for me to handle when cut to 24-30" long pieces so I cut them to about 6' and dump them in the woods. Ya gotta love a grapple!

Got the 4th function plumbed to the front for my hydraulic quick attach coupler and picked up a double acting cylinder I think will work well just need some more parts and I need to make up a couple hoses. I can't wait to get this working I change between the forks a a couple different buckets all the time and not having to get out of the cab to flip those handles sure will be nice.

I also started gathering up parts I'm going to use to make it possible to raise and lower the 3pt arms from the back of the tractor which should be a standard feature on all cab tractors.

Picked up some new Orange today. It will be put to work Monday for a water service repair. 12" and 24" digging buckets included. Waiting for the 36" grading bucket to come in. Hope to have some good stories to tell with it...

Home at last. I lucked out in snagging this one as it came in to the dealership the day I requested a quote.

I found the TimWelds videos very helpful, some free ones on you tube or you can buy his whole series for $39, I think.

Well while waiting for some more materials for the hydraulic QA coupler build I'm working on for my MX series tractor I decided to make a control so I could raise and lower the 3pt arms from behind the cab. It worked out pretty well and I didn't get to many parts involved. below are some pictures of the stuff I used. Parts were a rubber grommet, a couple 1/4x28 jam nuts, a cut down 50 cal aluminum cleaning rod and a rod end joint I got off of eBay. I just drilled a 1/4" hole in the control handle inside the cab for it.

I got this on eBay - "RH 1/4"-28 Thread x 1/4-28" Stud w/ Jam Nut, Heim Joints, Rod End (CMRS-4)"

And I used a black powder aluminum t-handle cleaning for the control. pics below.

It's centered between the rear remote controls and works really smooth - I like it and now if I have to tweak it up or down a little when I'm back there I can and see exactly where the arms are.

I can't wait till I get the rest of the stuff for my hydraulic operated quick attach coupler.

I was able to get 3 hours of seat time yesterday playing around with my tractor clearing snow off some of my two track trails. It was more of a nice tractor ride in mid-winter central Wisconsin than a real work day! Beautiful cool clear crisp air (15- 22 degrees) with sunny skies.

I can say that my L2501 with front bucket, no edge tamers, and too small box blade along with no chains and R4 tires is not the ideal snow removal machine for my trails. Had fun anyways! A good friend came with that enjoys cross county skiing and was able to hit the trails and log about 3 1/2 miles according to her smart phone.

A replacement step for the tractor was delivered today from eparts.shop. It was about 1/2 the price listed by kubota dealers. I was sure it was going to be a knockoff. It may be but it sure looks ok. Good project for tomorrow as it looks like its going to be a wee bit cold to play with the chainsaw.

Note to self - when playing in the woods watch out for stumps when backing up.

Went out a couple of days ago and cut down another Blonded Ash. It was a smaller tree, so I didn't think I needed to use the grapple. Blocked it up and loaded it in the bucket. I have at least 10 more to cut down that I have marked and I'm sure there are more on our 40 acres.

Restocked the firewood on the front porch this morning with the little girl and loader while the ground is still froze…she wasn’t too happy when I turned the key (only 12 degrees this morning but at about 38 now)…then we put the buckets and spiles and drill/hatchet in the bucket and tapped some trees…looks like we have more than a week of decent weather in the forcast ahead…a couple taps started dripping before I could put the spile in.

I used both tractors today. I used the blower behind the MX to scrape and "blow" ice off the driveway since it was in the low 40s here today and the ice had finally started to release its grip on the asphalt. This is what happens when folks repeatedly drive over 4" to 6" of snow. The blower rides on the compressed snow and leaves a lot of snow on the ground between the high points ... very annoying.

I finished splitting the wood that was in the 10ft dump trailer behind the M, and then used the M to move the trailer back with the others. There's 12" to 18" of snow on the ground where the trailers are sitting but the M is a tank and makes easy work of pulling trailers around in that deep stuff.
