Earlier this week, did a buncha stuff to the BX. I did the 50 hr. service- oil/oil filter/air filter /fuel filter change. Greased loader and MMM(which was removed). Swapped the blades on deck to "Predator" blades(same as the Gator blades). Quite pleased with how little buildup there was on the deck after 9 mowings, cleaned it off and sprayed some fluid film on one spot where paint is off. Added the 2" wheel spacers I got off eBay( 5x114.3, 71.5mm center bore). Added 2 Harbor Freight LED spotlights to the lower part of ROPS bar, was able to use the top hole that is in both sides, had to get a M8x50mm bolt-went with flange bolt and nut to secure the brackets. I tapped into the rear tractor light wiring for the LED's, I used those line tap connectors where it connects over the wire,so no cutting/splicing was necessary. Then I did the fuel filter housing side mount relocation to get rid of that PITA dinky filter underneath tractor. Custom made my bracket and painted it Allis Chalmers Gloss orange, as all Tractor Supply stores in WNY are out of the Majic Kubota orange, I forgot to check Runnings though. It's just a tad bit darker. Tried to figure out why my MMM linkage gets hung up if it goes up all the way-it only comes down about even with tractor frame, in order for it to come down to hook MMM up I have to give it a good yank, then it comes free. If MMM is mounted, it goes up and down fine.... 503FB84D-F7BA-4F50-A6B1-E511591AB776.jpeg 0762D8E1-B71B-4EAA-AA1C-ABE47C593E26.jpeg 95995E0D-69EA-41DF-9F4C-6320F5CB6074.jpeg 86841096-9704-43AE-B090-5705BEDEF50A.jpeg 0DDE7E15-2B8B-4A82-809E-D55DDFE9B96C.jpeg BDE55111-1B75-44DF-8602-E3D593F70CAA.jpeg B41A086B-6C5A-4FF6-8DB3-A4AD0C38BDEB.jpeg

Good call! I have the 60” Woods on my LX. It is great ballast and handles whatever grading/leveling I need with ease. Unless I need the 3 point for something else ot is always on. View attachment 82787
I searched high and low and the Woods was by far the heaviest BB I could find that had local dealers in my area. EA charges quite a bit for theirs and I think their only selling point above and beyond the Woods are the serrated tines (seemed gimmicky to me tbh as most rippers/subsoilers do not need serrations to get the job done) and the EA weighs less. I also didn't want to wait 4-6 months. What'd you pay for your BB if you don't mind me asking? Feel free to PM me if not comfortable sharing on here.

yesterday the box blade was used one more time on my future north side lawn. I ripped it shallowly then smoothed it by extending the top link all the way. Seeded it, raked it over manually and set up two tripod sprinklers that cover the area perfectly.
Being the summertime I can't let it dry out so watered it for the 1st time about 45 minutes for a good soaking. Last night it not only poured but we had hail. I was afraid to see how much I would have to reseed but all was good:

I'm going to put a stone mulch bed along the house extending past the ac units and plant a few 'deer resistant' plants.

Yeah, I don’t think the EA has any advantage over the Woods except I think they use an easier adjustment system for the tines instead of the pins but I don’t find the pin system to be a problem and the Woods weighs 130 pounds more so that was a wash and then some. Oh, they call it “wicked” so it must be cooler somehow.

It was right at $1k out the door but that was pre-craziness. I’m looking for their heavy duty rear blade (72”) for snow use this winter. A semi-local dealer is expecting a few soon. I think that with the bucket will easily handle my winter chores.

"wicked" + serrations = great marketing gimmick lol

You got a hell of a price compared to today's pricing. That 54 I bought was dealer listed for $1900 IIRC (which is way higher than tractorhouse) but I'm glad I got something closer to pre covid pricing.

Do you have any photos of the pins for the blades? I wonder if McMaster has a better solution.

What pins do you speak of? For the tines? Same as yours I’m sure.

Yeah the tine pins. I haven't picked up my unit yet (picking it up in a couple weeks when I pick up my truck from the dealer). I'm sure there's a better alternative out there.

I carry a pair of needlenose pliers in my toolbox to make quick work of the clips for when I’m wearing gloves. It’s a bit tight where they are. I don’t adjust them enough where the slight inconvenience bothers me at all. If I’m leveling a fresh area I’ll drop the tines to bust the ground up then put them back out of the way for leveling. The weight of the box blade is usually enough for my needs.

I had expanded metal welded on the frame of the guard and it had taken a beating over the last couple of years.

So, out came the grinder and off came the expanded metal.

Once that was off, then I had to go to work on removing the old weld and the extra bars that had been added to have points for the expanded metal to be welded to.

Once I got that cleaned up, I added the new grill guard to the frame.

I think it turned out very nice and should offer more protection than the expanded metal.

In full disclosure, I could not have accomplished this without the helping hands of my wife. If the weather permits, Monday we may run out to the farm and put the new guard on the tractor.

That looks nice, real nice and functional.

I still like the grill guard Ed posted with his last name laser cut in it. It's easy to identify and less likely to be the object of theft. ;)

Visiting up North…took the little orange monster for a stroll through the woods and mowed the trails, checked the previous visit potato hilling (hills from the bedder seem to be holding up - potato plants about knee high), threw some buckwheat down, and then greased the little monster and brush cutter before I put her up for a nap.

Good job with the garden! Any problems with potato beetles by you?
They are worse than normal here this year. I grow enough for a whole year. I'm winding down now on last year's crop.

Not yet (knock on wood 😉). The plants (Adirondack blue variety were 6-8inches taller than the red and yellow varieties all planted same date) are tall, but they don’t seem very full yet…pretty spindley if that makes sense…they are flowering so I’d say they are doing fine. The finglerlings we planted either did not come up or the deer chewed them off?

Will the potato plants die if the deer eat the tops off? Never planted potatoes before but I will be next year!

I am not entirely sure….Potato’s seem to try really hard to grow (think about the shoots that come out just if potato left in the basement/cellar, or if you cut a chunk with an eye and it comes up…seems like it takes little effort for potatoes to come up)…i don’t think potato leaves are preferred choice from the deer, but I can see where a few plants have been nibbled…I think unless chewed down the the dirt they should be fine. Either way I would bet they are both going to be on the table come fall. 😉

I agree with the deer not caring for the plants at all here, and we have many deer.
Potatoes love fertilizer so don't be afraid to feed them some 10-10-10 when planting and hilling. The harvest will be a good one.

made some longer supports for the Rhinohide canopy. 14" long so I can mount below the hinge and still have headroom.

From all the PTO safety shield talk in another thread, I pulled out my cutter and did a quick once over. That shield went missing from the woods to the shop, can’t find it anywhere. Slip clutch is easily accessible now, so that’s good.
