Yeah the tine pins. I haven't picked up my unit yet (picking it up in a couple weeks when I pick up my truck from the dealer). I'm sure there's a better alternative out there.
I carry a pair of needlenose pliers in my toolbox to make quick work of the clips for when I’m wearing gloves. It’s a bit tight where they are. I don’t adjust them enough where the slight inconvenience bothers me at all. If I’m leveling a fresh area I’ll drop the tines to bust the ground up then put them back out of the way for leveling. The weight of the box blade is usually enough for my needs.

I had expanded metal welded on the frame of the guard and it had taken a beating over the last couple of years.

So, out came the grinder and off came the expanded metal.

Once that was off, then I had to go to work on removing the old weld and the extra bars that had been added to have points for the expanded metal to be welded to.

Once I got that cleaned up, I added the new grill guard to the frame.

I think it turned out very nice and should offer more protection than the expanded metal.

In full disclosure, I could not have accomplished this without the helping hands of my wife. If the weather permits, Monday we may run out to the farm and put the new guard on the tractor.

That looks nice, real nice and functional.

I still like the grill guard Ed posted with his last name laser cut in it. It's easy to identify and less likely to be the object of theft. ;)

Visiting up North…took the little orange monster for a stroll through the woods and mowed the trails, checked the previous visit potato hilling (hills from the bedder seem to be holding up - potato plants about knee high), threw some buckwheat down, and then greased the little monster and brush cutter before I put her up for a nap.

Good job with the garden! Any problems with potato beetles by you?
They are worse than normal here this year. I grow enough for a whole year. I'm winding down now on last year's crop.

Not yet (knock on wood 😉). The plants (Adirondack blue variety were 6-8inches taller than the red and yellow varieties all planted same date) are tall, but they don’t seem very full yet…pretty spindley if that makes sense…they are flowering so I’d say they are doing fine. The finglerlings we planted either did not come up or the deer chewed them off?

Will the potato plants die if the deer eat the tops off? Never planted potatoes before but I will be next year!

I am not entirely sure….Potato’s seem to try really hard to grow (think about the shoots that come out just if potato left in the basement/cellar, or if you cut a chunk with an eye and it comes up…seems like it takes little effort for potatoes to come up)…i don’t think potato leaves are preferred choice from the deer, but I can see where a few plants have been nibbled…I think unless chewed down the the dirt they should be fine. Either way I would bet they are both going to be on the table come fall. 😉

I agree with the deer not caring for the plants at all here, and we have many deer.
Potatoes love fertilizer so don't be afraid to feed them some 10-10-10 when planting and hilling. The harvest will be a good one.

made some longer supports for the Rhinohide canopy. 14" long so I can mount below the hinge and still have headroom.

From all the PTO safety shield talk in another thread, I pulled out my cutter and did a quick once over. That shield went missing from the woods to the shop, can’t find it anywhere. Slip clutch is easily accessible now, so that’s good.

Tree cutting day in the woods with the girls (the Kimber and the Kubota)and hauled logs with the forks up to the wood rack, did a regen and celebrated a Happy Rebellion Day, then put the orange monster up for a nap.

Moved 350 gallons of water from my well to the two troughs I have out for wildlife. We are going through major drought No measurable rain on my property in over a month and none in forecast for the upcoming week . The seasonal pond I have dried up two weeks back and does with little fawns, and everything else, need water.

Neighbors have ponds but even those are long walks.

Every 2 days I've been having to use my FEL with forklift attachment to carry a 35 gallon drum to water pine tree seedlings. Back around the beginning of May I planted 110 trees surrounding 3 sides of my pond for aesthetics and also for wintertime light block for my astronomy hobby. Of course, since I planted the trees we are in an exceptional drought in my area. I have cracks in the ground 2" to 3" wide. I have a hosebib in the drum, lift the drum high with the FEL and use a 50 foot hose to water as many as I can reach then move the tractor to the next bunch (after lowering the FEL of course) i need to find a 55 gallon drum because I have to make 4 trips with the 35 gallon.

I need to seed grass at our farm, about an acre, but I'm waiting til Fall. With the current pricing for weed / grass killer, seed and fertilizer, I can't afford to do it too early and risk losing it to the summer heat and drought. This is a recreational property so we're not there all the time to water it and move sprinklers around on a daily basis. Good luck with your grass.
Good plan!
Depending on where you are in the USA, mid to late Sept. is usually a good time

My father did something similar for many years with a 250 gallon tank set in an off-road trailer. He had a siphon setup he hooked to the pond and would pull the tank to the bottom of the dam each night. By morning it was full and he’d plug the bottom end of the siphon and pull the loaded tank 1/4 mile to the garden where he’d let it gravity drain to various areas until evening and repeat. It was a 24 hour a day process but he only spent maybe an hour a day to keep everything well watered. Bigger tanks make the job much easier.
