Honestly this summer in Texas has not been terrible. Just a few days over 100F so far and now just 4 to 6 in a row (I hope!)

There have been some summers with over 30 days in a row over 100 and last year Austin had 45 in a row over 100.

What kills me is when the nights stay above 80 so there is really no cool down in the 24 hours. It just gets oppressive.

And then the utilities start start to limit electricity. I doesn’t take long to get a hot temperature inside if there isn’t electricity to run any air conditioning. But I recall growing up in a house with no AC at all so we spent a lot of time down at the creek swimming ( but riding a bike a few miles round trip was required )

I would agree, especially compared to the last 2 years.

Yeah as a kid I spent summers at family farm homestead or down at the coast, neither house had an AC til probably early part of the 1990's.

Over the last couple of weeks did the following to the new-to-me L2501…

Performed initial 50 hour service.
Added Ken’s bolt on hooks to FEL.
Added JU Fabworks tiedown points.
Added eBay magnetic mirrors.

ready to get to work.

This is connected to another tote, gravity waterer.

My friend did me a “favor” and dropped off some red oak firewood rounds. Even though I have a log lift a few were too big for it to lift them to quarter them, I thought I’d try something different.

Rowed up field to flat field, part two. This is what today started with. Dried out decently yesterday. Pretty lumpy. Not bush hog friendly quite yet.

Dad used to have a home made drag that went with the disc harrow. It was a pair of 6x6’s in a V with a piece of angle iron at the back, a couple dozen worn out rototiller tines lagged screwed to it, and a big eyebolt at the point of the V to hook to the chain that’s permanently attached to the harrow. No clue what happened to it but no way to overlook it and haven’t seen it it many years. This being a one off job, didn’t see any point in buying or trying to borrow a drag. Lag bolted a couple pieces of sweet gum to a rather long 1/4” chain and left the loop of left over chain to drag behind.

Set the disc angle a couple notches shallower and cut at 90 degrees to first cut. Made progress; not all the way there yet. Adjusted disc angle less than the second cut, but not completely straight, and cut a third time at 45 degrees to the first two cuts.

It isn’t rototiller perfect, but it’s plenty good enough it can now be bush hogged to a reasonably even cut and without getting beat to death by the tractor’s lack of suspension.

The discs hadn’t lost a lot of diameter but they were getting VERY thin. As I was putting it up, noticed this one broke. Probably hit a rock and fractured. Thought I did it today but looking back at the second picture above I can see it was broken before I started today; I just hadn’t seen it previously. Not much surprised. Done with it, so I guess it doesn’t really matter.

Edit: In the 500 hours on the L I’ve never used the cruise control before this job. It sure was nice for running around a field for a while at a constant speed.

I been moving wood into the shed between rain events lately. It wasn't a very good summer here for drying wood with all the rain and high humidity. But still, I am amazed at how dry it actually is compared to last April and early May when I split it. Not ready to burn but another summer in the shed will fix that.
Have to use the L3010 with the 5' bucket to get through the opening and reach into the rear of the shed.

It’s a new addition this year, I installed it late winter. I always wanted a SSQA and a thumb, now the tractor is complete! Wait, I do need a cup holder.

Put the disc harrow back in the shed, got the bush hog out of the shed, dropped the loader, put the ROPs down to fit under the trees, and mowed.

And mowed.

And mowed some more.

My neighbor's ditch needs deepened but neither of us have a good tool and it's pretty soft. Several passes with a big poplar log seems to have helped.

Oh no it ain’t. I’ve kicked myself more than once about not buying the hoe, let alone a thumb. I don’t have a huge long term need, but every time I find myself trying to cut enough roots off a stump with a subsoiler and then beating my poor FEL to death with a stumps bucket, I keep thinking that even if I resold the hoe , I’d have risked my tractor a lot less often.

That is an idea I need to try. I have 4 culverts that go under the road. On the outlet side is a flat shelf before it drops off into the woods. The ditch across the flat gets clogged with clay/silt and the only tool I have used is a spade. Hard work for me. Maybe I can make your idea work. Thanks for posting it !!
