What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Yup, I said nearly the same thing. Already 'planning' for a shop opposite the basement door on the north end (closest end in the photo), or perhaps at the end of the driveway on that side of the house. There's a bit of slope there, though, and I don't want to raise the pad too much. The leach field of the septic system is out there in that area somewhere too, and I'll have to make sure I don't build on top of that. There's a Plan B spot too. Looks like there's a pad behind the house with water and septic already stubbed up. Not sure if it's a separate tank or what. That would be perfect for a shop with water/septic, and there's also a pole out there with a security light and transformer already mounted that is a separate feed to the swimming pool. Silly me didn't really study the electrical system very well, but that suggests there is already a means of connecting a generator to the house. If not, that won't be a problem either. I'm well versed in installing transfer switches.

I just see a lot more opportunities to make my investment in the LX2610SU a lot more lucrative. I like having one powerplant and multiple tools. I did that with my weed-eater system. It now serves as weed eater, brush saw, hedge trimmer, mini-tiller, and pole saw. Pretty sweet to only have one engine to maintain.

Threw a JU Fabworks workmaster plate on the BX and started to learn how to move a trailer around while connected to the bucket... As someone who has only ever pulled said trailer behind their vehicle once, so know nothing about trailer movement, this kind of broke my brain a bit. Given the slow speeds and no other traffic, I found it pretty "easy" after about 10 minutes, I was able to drive it to the neighbors and deliver some pallets to be used as firewood. I can see how useful that workmaster plate will be in the future, seems very durable and I think has added a few more chores that the BX is capable of doing.

That pad is just begging for a big a$$ barn, forget about getting in the rental business. Another option is to operate a camping spot, I'm sure that there are RV'ers that would like a spot like that, campgrounds are overrun with the latest generation you mentioned.

GMTA. Already had that discussion with the missus. My sister and BIL have a motor home, as well as a few friends of mine that like to get out of the city on weekends. Just not sure how the blue juice is gonna do in a regular septic system, but I'm sure they can tell me.

It's just a bit far from the house for security, so I wouldn't want my tractor or mowing equipement down there. It really isn't visible from the house, Finding out someone else is driving my Kubota a few days after it went on walk-about isn't what I want. I'm almost tempted to cut some of it as hay, but most of the grass is a centipede hybrid, meaning too short for hay. I'll check with some of the locals when the time is right to see if they're interested in leasing a hay tract.

Yeah, thinking ZT at some point, just gonna have to wait a while til we're debt free, at least. It'll be nice to be taking small loans that I can pay off quick. $38K is just a bit more than I can buffer right now. Gonna have to go with something a little more friendly to the finances right now. Part of the deal is that I have to pay off the LX loan (zero interest) to get my DTI ratio down a bit. Already know about the tax issues. Can't homestead more than one property in the state, and I already have 2. I own a second property that I was going to rent, but my son needed a place to live, and the rest, as they say is history. He's been there for 8 years, and any hopes I ever had of making money with it are gone. Probably gonna quit claim deed it to him just to get rid of any tax/insurance responsibilities. Just gotta have that talk with him. Asking him about his finances is much akin to pulling the pin on a grenade.

It's certainly quiet out there. We saw ONE car go by while we were touring the property last week. We were there nearly 3 hours having a good roam.

The dock/pier needs a little work, but I walked out to the island on it. Part of it is actually a detachable floating dock that I can move out in the pond if I want. I see a trolling motor and battery in my future, and an anchor of some sort. I already have a couple spare car batteries that I can use. Maybe I'll replace it with a little john boat eventually, or just leave it as is. I'm gonna hit it pretty quick to check the status on the different fish in it. The pond is about as clean as I've ever seen one. Pretty sure it's had treatments to keep it that way. I reckon I'm gonna have to read up on fish pond maintenance and look at equipment/chemicals for that.

Grass carp may be doing their thing. Don't let too much fertilizer runoff in there.

Put the snow pusher and blower on this morning... so the dealer could pick it up End of the line for that combo. I'll wait for mowing season to finish and then I'll drop the tractor off to get the k-connect and front blower installed.

Some RV'ers use bleach to sanitize their fresh water systems, so tell them to drain that on the ground instead of down the sewer, it won't hurt the grass. Be sure to let anyone camping there that they are welcome only if rules are followed.

If you have good cellphone coverage consider installing game cameras that send to your phone whatever is moving at the barn, it would be a good idea and possibly entertaining regardless how you want to use the property. Lots of different plans are available and they aren't costly.

It is possible to have neighbors that are less than honest, for those I do some target practice from time to time so the message gets out.

There's been times that thought crossed my mind, but he is disabled (since birth with cerebral palsy), and I'll say his childhood was less than pleasant because of kids at school teasing him all the time. But yep, he's 40 this year, so it really is time for him to get over his complexes and learn to live life rather than let it run over him. I keep reminding him that the day that I won't be here for him is a lot closer than it used to be. "You run and you run to catch up to the sun but it's sinking, racing around to come up behind you again. Sun is the same in a relative way but you're older, shorter of breath and one day closer to death!" (Roger Waters / David Gilmour, Pink Floyd). He's never been fiscally responsible and learned to live within his means. He used to come around and start asking how to budget himself, and when I put things on paper that he wanted and it added up to more than his income, he'd get mad at me, like it was my fault he didn't do his best to secure a better job and life for himself.

Well, not the Kubota exactly, but the Kubota hauler got a fresh coat of ATF on the decking. Good to go. Love that stuff for trailer deck treatment...

Not completely dry yet...

I seldom report any usage of my tractors, but today was different. Been extraordinarily hot and dry, and the last few days been near or at 100 deg. My wife has a portable yard ornament and felt sorry for her and let her in the back yard, I think to allow her to get in the pond.

Well, I'm inside staying out of the heat and about 5PM my wife comes in with a concerned voice and declares Misty is in the pond and stuck in the mud. The pond has clay so thick you could make pottery out of it and the horse can't get out!

I gather a 20' nylon flat toe rope, a piece of chain, put them in the bucket on my L4240. When I get to the edge of the pond my wife is beside the horse with a lead rope around her neck and holding her head up a bit. I toss the toe rope out and ask her to put it under the horse and behind her front legs. Well, she can't reach down to get the rope under and around, so after a couple of tries I tell her to put where ever she can reach but at least behind one leg if at all possible. I needed to extend the toe rope with the chain a bit and hooked it to one of the hooks on the loader. Good ole HST, locked in 4x4, low, turtle I ease back and that monster comes out real gently!

My wife's shoes are still at the bottom of the pond!!

I helped her get a hose hooked up to rinse the mud off her, the horse and my shoes.

My response was, "What did you learn from that experience?"

My father operated equipment all his life until retirement.

in tight quarters, he would often say “an inch is as good as a mile…” I’ve always subscribed to his philosophy.

Mowing with the BX alongside my own truck. All’s well until I lift the 3-point a little to raise mower while turning …..quick hitch JUST catches left-rear of box.

My trucks are usually in very good shape and well taken care of. Couldn’t believe I did that.

I needed another 1/4”.

Should have abided by Dad’s 1” philosophy…

That’s a heck of a thing to do with your Kubota.

I always heard close only counts in horseshoes and hand grenades. Or is it a miss is as good as a mile? Or give ‘em an inch and they’ll take a mile?

Anyways, I don’t like to get that close to my fences (which bare the scares of too close encounters).

Maybe it’ll buff out? If you do have it fixed, you might look into what some folks are doing with paintless dent removal. Down right amazing.

So…what did your wife reply to your question? At my house that would have the start of a lousy evening.

Hopefully the horse and the pond don’t meet again. Maybe a few overhead misters in the paddock will make everyone happy?

I sanitize my RV water system with bleach every year and drain it on the lawn, never seen any effect on the grass. I also wash down the house siding with a mix of bleach and dish soap and the bird bath with full strength bleach and never see any negative effects on the plant life. I have long time personal experience with the use of bleach or I wouldn't have recommended it.
