That's a lotta axe and hammer handles!Cleaned up a big hickory that blew down last Saturday. About 32" DBH. Took about 6 hours. I tried to stand it back up and flop over the opposite way but it wasn't happening. I stood it up and cut it about 10" above ground level. Tractor picked up the 8 foot logs with little effort! Won't be any bugs around there for a while. They'll have moth-proof stairs. I LOVE the smell of fresh cedar. My sawmilling customer is building a cabin and decided on Cedar stairs and the risers/treads will be half logs.

I sawed about half of the order Saturday and.....

Finished sawing today. The hand rails will be 2X4's & 2X6's with 2X2 spindles. The landings will be various widths of 1".

And when the sawing is finished the cleanup begins.

It really was not as bad as it looks here.

But I was still happy to git-r-done. That ole M4900 loves to work.![]()
Just cut it up in blocks. No need to chip it. That's exactly what we had in our closets when I was a kid.A wood chipper would certainly make that cedar salable / valuable to anyone wanting an air freshener or closet anti-moth sock.
That's a big ol' hackberry. When they get that big, they're fairly smooth on the trunk bark. When they're about 8" in diameter, they're rough as a cob, and will seriously grind skin off if you slide down it. Don't ask me how I know.Used my 27 year old L2350DT to push some cut sections of a Hackberry tree off into in ditch.
Its a compact tractor and only 25 hp. but I am always impressed at how well it will 'push' things
It won't lift much, will 'pull' OK but reaches a point where the tires just spin if I try to overwork it.
But it will 'push' like a glacier. I am continually surprised at what this small tractor will move.
In low range and 4wd it easily handles things I just wouldn't expect it to do.
In the pic below....not that big a deal. A section of trunk about 10' long and 32" in diameter.
Hackberry isn't as heavy as say Oak, but 'skidding' it along the ground creates pretty good resistance.
Little Orange Tractor handled it easily.

Given enough time, I am relatively certain that she will forgive you. If not, keep drying your tarps on the clothesline. My super easy switch to winter running. Moved from outdoor location to winter home in machine shed. Adjusted plow trip springs from dirt/gravel/logs to snow.
Was told that rinsing off the green tarps and putting them on the wife's clothes line to dry was not my smartest move.
That is pretty cool!Swapped my grapple and box blade for the winter setup of bucket and rear blade. Not a huge chore there BUT it meant that I had to move a bunch of stuff around my storage garage to get it to fit comfortably as it’s quite a bit longer in this configuration. I still have to mount the skid shoes on the blade. The mounts aren’t quite made for my blade so I gotta figure out how to make them work. Not a big deal but dinner was calling.
I am most happy though with receiving, configuring and hooking up my wifi “smart” plug for my block heater. I have no interest in a smart home, Alexa, Siri, or whatever. This can work with those systems or on it’s own. Only took 5 minutes to load the app and pair it. They claimed a 300’ range in the open. The plug is about 150’ from the router. Zero issues, works like a charm. Woot!
