UDT Oil screw up

I just realized I put UDT oil in instead of 10W30 for my oil change in my BX2380
I have 3 hours use with the oil.

Clearly I need to drain and change the oil and filter ASAP but is there anything else I need to do

Cross your fingers maybe? LOL

My guess is you will be OK, but time for the heavyweights at OTT that actually know something to chime in.

Great that you realized your mistake rather quickly...

Edit: Are you using diesel rated oil? I use 15W40 shell oil in my tractors. Just asking to be sure...

Yup, change immediately. If the engine is cool, I would not start it to warm the oil. Drain overnight to get virtually all out. New filter and diesel (CK is current) oil, 15-40 sounds good.

i'll second woodkutter...

now.......... if you are a bit paranoid ............use a good diesel oil and then CHANGE it again after about 10 hours........ by then you will have removed 99% of it.

I worked for a tree company and our pusher engine for the truck hydraulics was a Kubota engine. My foreman would use Chainsaw Bar Oil in it when it needed oil and he did not have any motor oil for it on hand. It never missed a beat.

Agreed. Change it (and filter) and run it as normal. No need for a second oil or filter change.

Oil has been drained for a few hours and changed. New oil filter too of course.

I didn't notice anything different or any sounds other than the usual so I'm assuming there was not enough time to wreck anything if at all.

I won't be as bone headed the next time.

There are some folks who use a product called Rislone, it's suppose to clean the engine just before an oil change. That's what you accomplished without that product!

You are less bone headed than the guys skipping oil changes altogether!

Other than a few additives your UDT oil is similar to your engine oils.

Think UDT is about 20-25 weight but not diesel rated to keep soot in suspension. Think your Kubota probably allows 20w oil use in the engine (diesel rated). Problem is you're not likely to find any diesel rated 20w.

You didn't need to change the filter. Could have just taken it off and drained oil from it and put it back.

I'd use a 0,5 or 10w30 diesel rated oil. Can get it.

Engine oils and hydraulic/gear oils are very different animals. Engine oil is full of very important additives. The presence of those engine oil additives in a hydraulic system or drive line do not cause significant problems. The absence of those engine oil additives when a hydraulic oil is used in an engine WILL cause very significant problems if used for any length of time.

Little different but I once put in 1 qt of tranny fluid by accident in with the other 3 or 4 quarts of oil when changing the oil in a gas engine. Ran it the normal 10k miles between oil changes with no noticeable issues.

That's an old-school trick for cleaning out a gunked up engine. Works well.

I’m not a fan of cleaning out “gunked up” engines. If the engine part isn’t moving….(like a sump-wall or valve cover, etc etc)…. why would I want to break all that gunk loose and send it flying thru my engine.? The parts which DO move…like pistons against cyl walls, and rotating shafts, rocker-arms, valves, etc…. they keep their operating surfaces clean by their basic action…therefore those mating surfaces are ignorant of any “gunk”…. unless someone breaks it loose and sends it thru all the bearings and clogging passageways, etc. etc.

My guess is since the OP only ran the tractor for two hours it is a non issue.

Time to say "good job" to the OP for realizing the mistake and correcting it, and that likely no future issues will develop.
