I like to ride my "bike" (ok, I'll admit, it's a scooter!) around town and such. Small town. I watch everything closely. If I see 10 cars, 11 of them are holding the phone to their ear. or using it as "speaker phone". What I don't understand is when you see a "newer" car, driver yacking on the phone....I mean...these things have bluetooth so you can put the stupid thing down and drive.

people get aggravated at me for not answering the phone at times but it's because I'm usually driving when they call or text. So be it, get mad. They'll get over it.
I'll answer a call while driving. Phones connected via blue tooth. I can hear a text. Truck will read it to me. I wait till I'm parked before replying to any text messages.

No, just catching actual lawbreakers ! If I set the fines, 1st is $2000 and 2 points, 2nd is $4000 and 4 points, 3rd, $8000 and 8 points.

Unlike the 'red light' cameras we have, that nab the car's OWNER, who isn't necessarily the DRIVER.

For generations, man drove down roads without having a phone.

If 'that call' is so darn important, pull over to a rest area and take the call.

As you might have guessed ,I have ZERO tolerance for any driver using a cellphone, while in motion.

I kind of like this idea. As I understand the article the drone will be used after a complaint is filed. Instead of a two person squad car being tied up to investigate a drone makes a quick pass and then a decision can be made to use human assets.
They are not talking about small family cookouts. It is said to be for large scale parties that are out of control.

But where does it end? If we haven't learned anything over the last several years and beyond it is that if we give an inch they use that as an excuse to take a mile . It is in my opinion a slippery slope of eroded liberties that by accepting we in turn invite.

Respectfully, in larger metropolitan places, it's usually the police volunteers or the non-sworn officers who go to BBQ or Party disturbance calls. The gun carrying - sworn cops don't usually get disturbance calls. Unless it's smaller town, or a quiet night.
Is government over-reach the solution? Or it is a bigger problem? It depends on your views and ideology.

In the places where most of us tractor owners live, raising heck all night long won't mean a thing. In the big cities it's a nuisance to hundreds or thousands of people.

And, I'll say this, Police or Gov drones flying over your house all the time is something you and most people in a "free" state will learn to hate.

Exactly!!! It won't end until they control your checking account. Order your gender, and burn you at the stake if you don't comply.

No idea of everything contributing to this crash, but it illustrates how a truck can compress what looks like a Tahoe or Suburban to me into something about 24" long:

Cut and post from an e-mail. XXXXX are my edits.

Facial recognition technology is error-prone, racially-biased, and dangerous. But opportunistic tech companies are chomping at the bit to sell this technology to schools in New York. Now, State Education Commissioner Betty Rosa will soon decide whether to side with student privacy or with these tech companies.
Lots of research shows how inaccurate facial recognition is, particularly when used to identify young people, women, and people of color. These systems constantly scan people’s faces, and they can track children’s movements everywhere they go. This has the potential to turn innocent behavior like hanging out with friends into evidence of wrongdoing or even a crime.
There is also the danger that districts could send the biometric information snatched up by facial recognition technology to law enforcement or immigration authorities, like ICE. Not to mention the risk that this sensitive biometric information could be stolen by hackers.
The XXXXX has been sounding the alarm about facial recognition for years. We sued the State Education Department in 2020 to prevent it from allowing districts to use this technology on campuses, then we helped get a state bill passed that put a moratorium on its use in schools.
The law banned facial recognition and other biometric identifying technology on public school campuses until a report weighing its costs and benefits could be issued. That report is now out, and the results are conclusive: facial recognition carries several risks and has unproven benefits.
New York students’ privacy rights are now in the hands of the State Education Department, which will make the final decision.
Thank you for fighting for New York’s students.
