In summary, union dues may not be used for political purposes that are not directly related to the collective bargaining process. I.E., the union cannot contribute funds to candidates, etc. with dues money. Dues money can only be used for politics that involve collective bargaining rights. This is why unions establish PACs …in order to encourage members to contribute voluntarily towards political candidates/moements/etc…. NOT from “dues”.
