With this Spring and Summer the rainest on record here in Maine. I put very few hours on my tractor this past summer. I always change the oil spring and fall. But I looked the other day I've put less then 50 hrs on it since the spring oil change. So. I'd still love to change it. But I think the Manuel says every 200 hrs. But even at 50 hrs the oil will be filthy dirty.
But winter closing in fast. So I'll probably just change it before the cold weather sets in.

I am of the 1 year or hours mindset but each of us has to feel comfortable with the decision. More frequent than necessary doesn't hurt the equipment, just your pocket.

Never look at oil as dirty - look at oil as time served!
Dirty oil means it is doing its job - but then again 500 hours of dirty oil did its job years ago!

At the cost of an OIL change - do what your heart tells you!

In a diesel, new engine oil will look "dirty" after 4 hours.
Would you change oil at 4 hours?

Do mine each fall.

About 50 hours.

Last fall I only had 30 hours.

I let it ride till spring. Was a warm winter, so not a lot of hours over the winter.

The world continued to turn. Sun and moon acted normally.

Just being a smart aleck and poking fun. I’m betting the oil will be just as effective for a while longer 😉

You do spring too…Maybe let it go to spring? Your choice…

I look at a lot of decisions to be made to be like finding termites in your home. No need to get wound up and panic stricken. They been there for a long time and a bit more time isn't going to cause the house to fall it!

If not changing the oil causes you to not sleep at night, best to change it. Otherwise next Spring will find everything just fine!!

Usually spring oil changes for me. I don't put on enough hours a year to require 2 oil changes and the tractor lives in a unheated barn all winter. My rationale is that there's going to be some condensation in the crankcase from the temp swings over the winter and a oil change in the spring after a good engine warm up gets rid of all that and has it ready for hard work when it is time to cut first cutting hay.

If you leave your machine parked outdoors you can leave the filter and change only the oil to make you feel better.

If you run your machine hot moisture will be less of a problem. Short cold runs are asking for trouble.

Another vote for a yearly change. Every machine I have gets it either by mileage, hours, or yearly. I do it for condensation due to the extreme humidity and temperature swings we get.

I change mine at recommended hours or yearly whichever comes first. Mine is stored in a climate-controlled shop.
