Just purchased a woodland mills saw mill. Great mill but having trouble with the blade lube. Been using water with dish soap and it creates a sludge on the wood that if it is not brushed off, it dries hard like concrete. Can't grasp using diesel fuel on wood that may be stained or painted but others use it. Any one here use something they like?????

that with a small dash of dawn dishsoap is what i was using, its pretty popular around where i am at.
My son-in-law uses straight water for his Wood Miser in the warm weather. He's been cutting hemlock and pine for the most part with no problems other than an accumulation of wet saw dust inside the saw casing.

I have been using 2-3 oz of liquid Cascade (light green jug) per gallon of water for 20 years. It does not make suds so it's easily mixed. I have sawed well over 2 million bf using Cascade.

The old timers used kerosene. It removes the wood sap. The old loggers even carried bottles to lube their crosscut saws.

Which is why many sawyers use Diesel. A drop sprayed on the blade every 2-3 seconds or dripped onto a wick is all that is needed. I keep a spray bottle handy and occasionally on a lightening struck or a Longleaf Pine log a squirt may be needed. No it's not enough to be concerned with stain nor smell.
Tried the diesel fuel diluted with paint thinner. Works good, no more drying like concrete but I haven't cked the effects of staining or clear coating. Maybe nest month. I've already got 2 stacks of lumber 4 ft deep and over 6 feet high in the 40 by 60 metal building. No more place to put it. Will just have to tarp the rest of it outside. My converter supplier has already ordered some 1X4's.
