Its been a crazy week, bunch of a/c work in general right now plus I had 3 evaportors this week. One ended up coming from a nissan dealer in jackson. A 2019 Maxima that "declined service", all the customer said, no details. We said yes sir! Big job, paid well.
Then I'll skip the 2nd one and hit the third. Its a little easier, but way nastier, with a bit of a twist followed behind.
Starts out with a customer states "Y'all JUST replaced my WHOLE a/c system and now it wont even blow out the vents." Boss's ole lady said he was pissed. I dont blame the guy. It's hot as hell today and it aint even kicked in good yet. No biggie, this is why we have warranties.
But the truck was last in March '22. And the notes on the ticket say the high side pressure was 450psi+ because the condenser and radiator were slam packed full of grass seed. A/C couldn't cool sittin still.
We blasted all the crap out of the condenser and radiator sent it down the road. Only parts used were water and air LOL.
Bring it in, she aint cooling. It's .5lbs low. Also got no mode functions (stuck on defrost, like mechanically stuck, not defaulted to defrost stuck like on vacuum actuated systems) as well as a partially moving blend door.
Before I could even think of pulling the dash we (and by we i mean our 3 week old 16 year old summer helper) had to remove what ended up being 4 rotella boxes full of crap. soon as I roll the hvac case back in my hands, I hear the sound of things tumbling around inside the case.
And unlike the maxima, this dude is modular. They're almost getting too heavy for me and the boss to hike out like this. Few more years and i'll probably be atleast removing the column to lighten the load.
Split the case, find what I believed to be a pile of corn nuts jamming the mode door along with some ammo stopping the blend door from swinging to full cold.
Leak is middleish up far left side. small spot.
Guy comes to pick up just before closing today (1- 2ish on Fridays) Boss brings the guy out to show him the leak in his evaporator plus what I got out of his case, and to advise him not to stack so much stuff on the dash. Guy looks at the boss and tells him, "theres no way you're gonna tell me that messed up my a/c". I just shook my head.
I did end up showing him the one that I did Wednesday. Which was on one of our regular farm hand's truck. It was so bad, as soon as I opened the door I could smell pag oil. This will be the 3rd motorcraft evaporator in 5 or 6 years i think on this truck.
Exact same setup, only a center console truck so the front seats gotta come out. This also has to happen on majority of the f150s of this era when the RCM is mounted under the center of the front seats. Gotta access one dang connector. Or you can violently shove them back, either way.
Why I could smell pag oil
