Sounds better than a Mockingbird, but then again he could have been singing the notes in Spanish.

I didn't realized I saved one of the recordings. Here is a recording of the Long Billed Thrasher.

I placed a bird feeder in the thick of the brush, there was a couple of rare birds that I picked using the Merlin app, but wasn't able to visually locate them. The brush will get even thicker/fuller as the temps heat up.
In a few days this feeder, and nearby water bowl should be a magnet to a few other species.

Blanco Bluebonnets, aka White or Albino Bluebonnets. These plants will get tagged, hopefully recover the seed pods before they explode. I would like to plant these in more of a controlled area.

And here are 4 Pink Bluebonnets.

"According to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center, the white color is caused by a genetic mutation that changes the blue pigment of the recognizable flower to take on a white, light blue, or even pink color.

Although they may indeed be rare, they’re hardly impossible to find, as many are discovering now. "
Except here on my place!

Dug out an old stump pile yesterday; got a bunch of landscape rocks out of it:

My almost new GR Corolla enjoying the riverfront area. "GR" is Gazoo Racing. It's a factory Toyota hot rod 3 cyl 300 hp, AWD, 6sp manual rocket in a sleeper package. Late life crisis car ;), and I'm lovin it!

Thats awesome, they are cool critters, they will spit blood out of their eyes for defense, don't kill off the harvestor/leaf cutter ants, that's the horned lizzards primary food. But. treat fire ant mounds individually, the fireants are invasive species.
You sir, now have something that most Southern folks haven't seen in person in 30 years!

I have not targeted any insects. I am not aware of fire ants in my vicinity🤞. I am guessing the short horned toads are around because they have found a niche to exploit. I plan to do some research to learn more about them. I might get a TCU T-shirt😜.

Everything sounds great, except getting that T-shirt, lol. About 25% of the Horned Lizzards I encounter are near old brush piles(burned or piles that have sitting for more than a year).

The San Antonio Zoo is the only place I know that has dedicated research and breeding/release programs.

Interesting, now I've got to find out what acrobat ants are.

"Except in North eastern Kansas and a few other isolated areas where there are no harvester ant species. In these parts of their range, horned lizards appear to subsist on a species of small "acrobat" ants."

I assumed I have short horned toads because of the distribution. I believe this is a Texas horned toad on the northern end of its range.
Crap, I just burned 13 brush piles where I saw the horned toad. I hope I didn’t destroy their ecosystem. I can see how the decaying wood would attract ants, which would feed the horned toads. I will look around the other 40+ brush piles to see if I can find more horned toads.

Well they like the burned up piles too, I think they get minerals and other insects from the ashes. I often see the turkeys taking ash baths in my old piles as well. So I try and have a balance of brush piles vs burned piles.
The quail also thrive in brush piles during the winter months.
