I own a BX2230 looking to buy a new motor. Where is the best place to purchase one?

gee, looks like they've used that engine for decades ! Only about $5K USD too !
It'd actually be cheaper than rebuilding the Buda BD153 in my forklift.........

Instead of going through the parts department, make sure to see a salesman for the wholegoods price …. if EPA regulations didn’t screw that up too.

I got into another "sweetheart" of a project yesterday. I agreed to R&R a bad engine. Not sure how badly damaged it is, but we know it has a hole in the pan, and certainly ran a while with little to no oil in it. The owners are looking at options, like having it rebuilt, buying new, a reman...

I got the new motor installed and it is blowing back smoke and no throttle response just like the old motor. The tractor has a new fuel pump and filters. And good gas. What could probably be the problem?

Gas in a diesel? I think we found your problem...

Air intake system restriction issue? Something in the tractor putting an extremely heavy load on the engine when it should be unloaded?

is really sad...go to the expense,time and effort and have the SAME problem !!
I agree with Rodger, either air starved or under a huge load.

does it just 'idle' (RPM ??) ?
does it sound like it's 'under a load' ?
any way a hydraulic valve is stuck, 'loading' the engine down ??
or stuck in gear with parking brake on ??

pulling at straws as long distance diagnosis isn't easy...

OK I found the problem!! It was a clogged exhaust. Cleaned it out and it runs great. Thanks for all the posts. That one really had me stumped.

Congratulations on finding the issue and glad you got it figured out!

I thought about an exhaust restriction but I thought with the black smoke it was probably an intake issue but if it can't exhale it will over-fuel also due to too little air for combustion just as you found.

And thank you for coming back to post the solution. Far too many threads end up with the original poster disappearing into thin air; someone in the future is going to come across your thread and will quickly find the solution to the same problem with their equipment.

grr.. clogged exhaust !!! THAT is a common problem with 2stroke weedwhackers made by Stihl as the 'spark arrester' plate plugs up.
Never thought that to be your problem....

I had what you describe with my stihl 170 chainsaw. I use their oil and 91 alcohol free gas. Finally took the arrestor out after cleaning several times and it runs great again without it.
