One small hic-up that I just found, it does not have the fuel pump hole in the side of the block, and you will be removing the fuel pump that is on there now, you could go through the trouble to drill and tap the holes in the block for the lift pump, but you would be much better off just putting a low flow low pressure electric pump on it to make it work, and it would probably work better than the old pump anyways. ;)

Looks to be a different style fuel pump plus I need to mount the hydraulic pump off the back side where the primer pump is on the pic of the v2203.
I read a thread on here where a guy posted a question about a difference with this as well on the same retrofit as we are discussing but nobody responded to him, I have tried to send him a couple messages to see how he resolved it with no response either.

Yes the pump that is mounted on the back of the Injection pump is an active pump, use to pull fuel up from the bottom tank on a reefer unit.
I'll post a bigger close up picture of it tomorrow for you to see. ;)

Thanks will be nice to know all of what I would need to change before pulling the trigger, I am lucky in the fuel dept. as the fuel tank is higher than the engine on this tractor as it sits right in front of the steering wheel.

One thing I thought of is the pilot bearing, pull your clutch and give me pics and dimensions of what is there.
I will get dimensions of my V2203 Newer crank, and if cviola2005 has a older V2203DI hanging around maybe he can get some measurements too.

Here is what the side of the block looks like around the injection pump.

This weekend I will get to that, working night shift this week so mornings are short for getting anything like this done.

How is the primer pump assembly attached to the back or side of the injection pump housing? this is what I can't seem to see good enough in all V2203 pics so far.
Just looking if my hydraulic pump will bolt up to the rear of the IP hassle free and like another post a guy had here he ran into an issue with it in this post.

I'm not sure what his issue was, as they both take the same splined cam shaft end????
Maybe he didn't notice that there is a blank sleeve/cover over the splined shaft to hold the back bearing in place when they don't use the pump gear, like in the second photo???
Also note that even though they don't use the fuel pump cam on most V2203's it's still on the camshaft (it's the ring/skinny lobe between the 3rd and 4th cam lobes)

V2203 Camshaft

V1702 / V1902 Fuel Camshaft / with blank cover / sleeve over cam splines.

OK guys dimension comparison time. Got the clutch and flywheel and rear housing off the 1702.

Bell housing is 100 mm thick

clutch assembly protrudes 70mm past rear face of flywheel housing measuring the furthest point which was the clutch finger castings of the pressure plate assembly.

distance from outer edge of flywheel where the pressure plate bolts to it to the rear face of the bell housing is 35mm there is about a 2mm step out where the clutch plate rides so if measuring from clutch face it would be 33mm

distance from rear face of crank shaft to rear face of bell housing is 72mm but take into account the crankshaft is broke and it looked to be about 2 mm out looking at the rear main seal so it may be closer to 74mm but just a guess

flywheel total thickness is 47mm

Gotta say everything looks like new yet clutch disc lining and splines in the hubs and on the trans and pto shafts as well, release bearing looks and feels great and pilot bearing looks and feels great but will get replaced with replacement engine.

The back of the crank off of the block will be exactly the same, and the dia of the crank and bolts will be the same, as it was for me.
What I need to know is the OD and depth of the pilot bearing to make sure it will fit for you. ;)

Just to be sure, the oil pan and flywheel hsg from my 1702 are a direct bolt on to the 2203 then? Also what about the flywheel, would mine be a direct swap?

If so then I will go ahead and order up a used engine next week.:D

Well got the ball rolling on a used engine. Waiting on final invoice with shipping costs, may be a week or so before seeing the engine.
From visiting with guys from 3 different companies selling these used V2203 engines as well as cviola2005 here all of them seem to come out of reefer units so they shouldn't have seen any "abuse" so to speak.

I am going to start a new thread and document the process the best I can for doing the V2203 retrofit into the L2850 tractor once the engine shows up.

Just a tid bit of info, i have been looking for a tractor that runs the V2203DI in as close to the same size and vintage as my L2850 that was built from 1985-1990 and the only one I came up with is the L4350 built from 1991-1995 which runs the V2203DI and is rated at 47.5 hp. Hope this helps some as well going forward.
Still waiting for an engine to ship.
