Thanks, I am going to pull my engine down and see exactly how much more damage there is and see if it will be cost effective to rebuild, if the damage isn't much more than I know of already then I will be good to go. If I can stay at or under 2500 I am golden any more than that and I will buy a reman engine with warranty for an extra grand.

Another quick question Wolfman.

I am looking at engine options and was wondering if mine is DI or IDI?

I had sent pics to a company thinking it was a DI engine an they replied saying it looked like an IDI due to all the injector lines going over the intake and most DI engines have two lines over and two under the intake manifold.

I am a bit confused as he replied it could be an old style DI though too.

Do you have any input to clear this up?

Your V1702 is DI. The engine that came out of my tractor is also DI. The injector lines just above the IP have a curve, moving them away from the engine, to clear the larger and lower intake manifold. The IDI is not like that, the lines go up without the hard curves.

Warrenton,VA,
Just read the post and was concerned that you have a knock, and plan to rebuild at only 1700 hours. I am hope to get twice that amount of hours before any major repairs are needed. My only comparison is my father in laws New Holland approx 100 HP tractor which has over 8000 hrs, and no rebuilds or major repairs.

Well decided to get a start on the engine project. Hopefully next weekend I will get time to pull the engine down to decide on rebuild or reman. Here are some pics of the hunk with the engine on the ground, took me about 6 hours including the time to push it into the shop to have the engine on the ground.
I had the loader removed as well as the front driveline off previously so that saved a couple hours.

I want to confirm that it's an DI engine, can you take a picture from the top of the injectors?

If you do end up needing another engine and yours is a DI, you can use a V2203 DI engine and it will bolt right in after swapping a few external parts out, it's a much cheaper option than rebuilding the V1702 as I have found out myself. ;)

An V2203 is the same external block size and makeup of the V1702, V1902 and a few other engines.

From all I read the L2850 was a DI here are the best pics I have right now where you may see what you need to confirm. I have been trying to pry info from guys who have done the 2203 swap but nobody responds
I would be tickled to do a v2203 swap if I can find a DI. Found one company selling them but once I told them it needed to be DI he quit responding completely lol. Big push on selling whatever he has laying around I think.
If you need more detailed pics I can get you some tomorrow, let me know.

Yes that's a DI, and yes you can swap it out for a V2203DI.

Drop cviola2005 an email HERE
As he told me he had one or could get one.

In a total fluke I found a V2203 DI locally for a killer price, from a guy that got it for a truck, till he found out it was too low of HP (around 50hp) for a big truck. :D
I'm using it as a swap for my V1702 IDI engine in my Bobcat.

Thanks, Sent him a message will wait to hear back from him.
So I would not need any sort of adapter plate then? I have read numerous things about needing some adapter plate to do a swap using the v2203 where a 1702 came out of unless this is just a skid steer issue?
Any thoughts or experience on this?

I will check, but I think the outer holes are the same, it's just the inner holes are different, and on a tractor application you don't use the inner holes.
I had to alter my adapter plate for my skid steer mounting plate to fit the bigger rear main, but the flywheel bolted on.

I've got enough parts around here that if you need dimensions I can help you make sure.

Thank you for the reply.

Wolfman will oil pans and front covers swap from my engine to a 2203?

Price is not too bad, as long as his shipping price is good.
The "new style" has different injectors and different injector lines and different intake, also the valve cover bolts on the sides not down the center.
It's a closed system engine so no more blow by leaving oil streaks down the side of the tractor.
Note how two injector lines go over the top of the intake and 2 go under, not an issue for you as the intake is right for your application and you won't need to change it, also note that it is a higher HP motor.;)
If you want to keep your old engine for parts stay with the "old style V2203 DI" as all the parts like injector lines and injectors should swap over.

NIW, I'd like to know the answer to that question as well.
Yes they are direct bolt on, just keep an eye on the oil outlets on the bottom of the front cover to make sure the gasket matches and seals.
You will need to drill out for the oil dip stick , it's a soft block and super easy to drill, and the flat to drill is there.
You might also have to swap the throttle plates and stop plates out, but again direct bolt on.
On the Bobcat 743 setup I chose to use the gear case cover that came with it as the newer style V2203 has the fuel stop solenoid built into it, that is a nice add on from only having the manual stop on the old motor.
It also has a larger oil filter setup (extended life filter), I was able to rotate the housing strait down to be able to clear the large starter that they use (would have loved to change to the smaller starter but it won't fit the adapter / mounting plate for the 743) and it cleared the mounts and floor. :D

The one I have is the newer style. I believe a 2005 year model.
Ha Ha you must have read my mind via the interweb, was going to send you a message asking about this. I think I will stay with the older style for parts interchange as wolfman states.
