I thought it was real until I saw the BMW 5 Series with 5 miles on it comes with a CD player. Might as well say it comes with an 8 track player. If it weren’t for that I would have fallen for it. 🙄

Instead of wasting money on Mars or the Moon if our wonderful senate and congress would address scammers and robo calls instead of worrying about stuff that don't matter Americans would be better off.
The infrastructure bill has more waste then the local dump of the 1940's. That helps no one.

As a quick note... NASA's budget for 2021 is 22.4 billion dollars. Which is less than one half of a percent of the total US Gov't 4.7 trillion dollar budget. This is like the equivalent of a Netflix and Amazon Prime Subscription to someone making 50k a year. Also unlike other departments of the government it has provided the public with large advancements. Microwaves, Velcro, Memory Foam, emergency blankets, Deicing systems, advanced prosthetics, LASIK, and many others.

While NASA most likely won't be finding a way to mine and return resources from Mars, them pushing the boundaries and being forced to innovate brings boons for the rest of us. Unlike a private company doing these innovations all of the stuff found is available to anyone in the public (unless the military classifies it). Speaking of the military they have a budget of 915 billion and almost all the research they do is classified until they decide to release it 20 years later.

I think there are places to trim the fat in the Gov't but we do need to stop waxing scientific and education stuff just because it doesn't make stuff go boom or obviously print money.

Also, let's not forget that learning and discovering things are essential parts of our being humans: it's in our nature. Without that trait we'd still be living in caves, without even fire.

And learning just for the learning (i.e. without any direct or indirect economic impact) is also a good thing: some things just don't have a price, yet they contribute to a better society.

One point to make - military spending has improved the quality of life around the world as well. The NASA list of advances pales in comparison to the military list. The military list starts with wiz bang things like "canned food", "ambulance" and progresses from there. The military list ALSO has "create the space program" on it.

"Geee Wally, it sure would be nice if everyone would get along". Well they don't Bever, so until they do, make sure you always carry the biggest stick. - that just is what it is.

One thing is for sure - Humans days on the planet earth ARE numbered. The days our sun has left to shine ARE numbered. At some point space spending WILL be a critical necessity. It would be nice if we were ready BEFORE it is critical.

Got curious. It is estimated the sun has 5,000,000,000 years of useful life left...

Yeah, but that's until it transitions into becoming a red giant. In another billion years or so, as it starts to run low on hydrogen to fuse into helium, it's going to start heating up. Earth will be a dried out cinder way before five billion years.
