IMO, Kubota like JD command a close to MSRP price for popular models. If you really want a price point deal, you'll have to look at a lesser brand like Kioti or Mahindra or LS. Those have more wiggle room. You get what you pay for and in resale value down the road too.

Just my view, your mileage my differ however.

If you want to save some $$$ you need to have quotes from other dealers. Look at the Kubota website and find the closest 3 or 4. Contact them for a quote for exactly the same tractor configuration and implements.

The point of all of this is to find out if your dealer is competitive. If they are, then you know you are getting a fair price. If they arent, then you can go to them and show the other quotes and see if they will match any of the others. If they wont budge, then you have a decision to make. A dealer that fights for your business is one that will also be more likely to help if you have issues (IMO). I was about 10% under on mine, and my dealer was very competitive. However my machine isnt that common.

If you dont want to mess with all of this, then just pay it and get that tractor!

A couple months ago I was ready to sign papers on a bx23s, built online was around $21,000 or so, first dealer I called said $19800, second one which would have been the one I bought from said $18,500 delivered about an hour away. Neither one had the tractor in stock and would have been a factory order. Unfortunately had some issues with my 4 year old so had to put his health in front of adding another tractor. I would agree with shopping around.

When I was pricing out a M7060, the quote was 83% of msrp when I built it on the Kubota website.

Okay, I see where you got that number from but in my research I have found that discounts from MSRP vary by model more than by dealer. At least that is how they seem to work around where I live.

Dealer didn't have any BX23S'? My dealer (and this is in a relatively urban area) said they were selling 1-3 a week back in June. They had 3 or 4 on site that I saw and probably half a dozen more in crates out back awaiting assembly...

The higher price dealer had one at one point, I had seen it when I was getting parts one day. The lower price dealer didn’t sound like they had every sold one, didn’t really know what the hell it was. They are a very rural dealer though, seem to deal with the bigger tractors.

Believe dealer $ posture is relative to location and the cost to do business in that locale. High property taxes, regional wage rates for employees, ancillary costs and fees all effect dealer perspective.

Volume incentives from Kubota are unadvertised and play a role. The MX here came from a small town but high volume dealer. Didn't matter if tractor was on the lot an hour or 3 months, he moved it. Kubota does advertise specials, different from volume allowances. Stay away from package deals, trailer + implements, often inferior.

Another factor is the amount of related merchandise the dealer markets. Again, the fellow I bought from, sold a high volume of riding and Z- turn mowers, with complete Stihl line, + a healthy parts/GP's implement business. I never met the dealer during purchase. Called, got quote, and then called 3 other dealers. Selling dealer bested the others by 2 $ thousand. Completed deal on phone, he faxed the 0 interest application and done. I signed some final forms for the driver at delivery.

Folks said when service is NECESSARY, closer dealer will jerk you around. Selling dealer was only an hour drive but Kubota will not tolerate any nonsense.

Any, yes any dealer refusing warranty service, jeopardizes the franchise.

I have purchased 8 new tractors in my lifespan, never had a need to return machine for warranty work.

The newer market brands are having an impact on Deere and kubota. I do not chastise those brands, many owners are thrilled w/ their purchase.

Resale, you haven't even bought it and you already want to sell it ????

Get some quotes from the other brands, visit the Kubota dealer w/ comparable quotes. Believe you will see movement in the price. Dealer won't tell you what Kubota will allow when faced w/ losing
a sale to a competitor.

Some folks have gone out of state and avoided sales tax and received significant discounts.

It is important to allow local dealer the opportunity to meet or come close to your best pricing option.

I did see a post from a dealer that refused service if in-state sales tax was NOT paid. Not sure of Kubota position in that situation.

Kubota makes a fine tractor, but a yanmar also builds their own Japanese engine/drivetrain for those allergic to Korean products.

Invest some time and effort as this purchase should be long term. I still operate a 1980 IH, and I do love that old machine.

EDIT: Oliver does make a valid point. However, the out of town or distant dealer is not niaive. He knows his price will be taken back to the local dealer. He also knows he has a reasonable chance that he may still make the sale.

Seems like the L2501 has been pretty popular lately, may be that dealers aren’t dealing much on them.

I know many do but I happen to disagree because I don't think it's fair to the one that gave me the best price to begin with.

When I shop for something like a tractor or vehicle, most anything actually, I determine what dealers I'm comfortable dealing with and simply tell them I WILL be buying but also that I'm getting another price and the best price wins.

I'm not screwing the one that gave me the best price by letting the other one (who tried to make more) lower their price to the price it should have been to begin with.

Oliver, that is exactly what I did when my wife an I bought her a car. We had decided what model and features we wanted and had found two cars nearly exactly the same, had driven them and just needed to decide. They were about 45 minutes from each other.

I had been dealing with the one farthest away because they had a bigger selection, and found the other one much later in the process. I went to the one and said we're buying a car today so determine your best price on this car, write it down on a piece of paper and give it to me. I'm going to another dealership and saying the same thing. They will not see your note. I'm buying the one with the lowest price.

I went to the second dealer and told him the exact same thing. He wrote it down and handed it to me. I asked him if he understood what I just told him! He said he did. I thanked him for his time and patience. He quickly began telling me how much time he had spent with us, and .... I said thanks and went walking out.

Call the other dealer and asked if he was still open (It was a Sat.) He made a sale about 1hr. later.

It was kind of fun actually.

D2Cat I like how you do business.

I vividly recall some years ago when I was in business (flooring) I was at a home to measure for new flooring and give them a price. It was for removing carpet and furnishing new 3/4" wood, after figuring everything I gave the couple our price which was $7,700.

The husband asked if that was my best price?

I said it was.

He said his other price from "Halls" was $8,900, but they said they'd beat anyone who gave a lower price by $100, could I make it $7,600? I had no doubt they told them this because it was just how they did business.

Nevertheless I said "no I won't, but go ahead and save $100 and buy from Hall's, the ones that were going to overcharge you $1,200......"

As I was leaving he said "order the flooring and call us when you can do the job".

So just me but this is how I sold and this is how I buy.

When I finalized on the Kubota I wanted and knew what implements I wanted I had a list, built it on the Kubota site. The dealer I worked with originally was who I really wanted to do business with. I am a Sales guy myself and I don't play games with my customers and appreciated my Dealer doing the same.

For piece of mind I did request quotes from two other dealers. One of which is a high volume dealer. Both also good in their own right. But as I do with my customers I believe in building a relationship that is helpful long term. My Dealer proved to be someone that I could do just that.

Surprisingly the all three dealers were very very close in the numbers so much so that it did not matter. I got a healthy discount and felt great about it. I did not haggle or pit the dealers numbers against each other. The price I bought was what I was expecting. During the short time I had to wait for implements to arrive the Dealer (Statesville Ag and Turf) went the extra mile on a few things without even asking.

For me buying a tractor has proven to be much different than buying a car or truck. The Dealer matters just as much if not more after the sale. Do you want to only be a transaction for that Dealer or be a customer? The street does go both ways weather you realize it or not.

My view is similar to AuburnAlum. I'm prepared to pay a little more to deal with someone who invests time in me, is close to me (I like to buy local), and who I think I can have a long-term relationship with. But only a little more.

So my process is usually to sort out which dealer is my first preference, and spend time looking at models and taking advice. I price check with one or two who I have reason to think might be cheaper. Basically to win my business (because they're more inconvenient for me) they need to be quite a bit cheaper. I give my local guy a chance to come close. If he can, and we're all feeling happy about that, I do the deal. If he can't come close enough or I feel like getting that discount is going to break the relationship I've built, I go with the online guy.

If we all just shop lowest price, service will die, and local support will die. I'm prepared to pay a little more for that. But they can't be taking advantage of me.
