landscape rakes

I have never used a landscape rake before. I have been considering getting one to use in y woods to drag stuff around with. But now that I have a grapple coming, I'm not sure if the landscape rake will be needed.
So tell me about what all you have used a landscape rake for? My long driveway is asphalt so wouldn't be needed there. I do have dirt trails all over my property that we use ATV's on tho. My property was logged a while back and I literally have hundreds of trees and tops laying around.

Mostly used to remove rocks from soil in the process of developing a lawn. That is what I use mine for.

You will find a ton of uses for the grapple to be sure, but if you want/need to clear out trails of rocks and debris,, the grapple is not what you want,, the rake is,, just my .025 cents worth

I have both landscape rake and root grapple.

The rake had been used a lot for rock and branch/twig collection in preparation for seeding turf. It was also useful for grading the lane when it was gravel.

The grapple has been useful for collecting brush piles and staging logs.

No real overlap between the two.

I borrow a neighbor's 7ft beast for a stab at collecting rocks out of large newly graded areas - It generally works well, but the composition of my "soil" is partially rock to some degree.

Also works GREAT for doing the same on trails and evening out erosion gullies on gravel powerline 2 track across my property that I use to walk dog all seasons. FWIW It has the wheel kit which I have come to realize is a game changer for these uses. I am on a ridge so it's a constant fight with newly emerged rocks

I have a 6' and a 7'. I use the 7' with the top link shortened as much as possible and drag a field to spread "cow pies". Does a nice job as long as they are not rock hard. I may have to wait a couple days after a rain in that case.

Also good for ranking gravel and other material.

Also use to rake area of pine trees to clear cones and other debris.

Thanks for all the feedback fellers. Sounds like I would benefit from adding one to my collection. The 6' king kutter rake is substantially bigger (not just wider) than the 5' model. Has anyone used the 6' model on their L series?

yes, and you will want the 6ft to be able to still cover the tire tracks with it angled

Friend uses a heavy c-channel and chains behind his ATV for 'trail cleaning' every 2 weeks or so. Simple, cheap,easy to use , does a great job and another 'excuse' to be on the trails ( about 8 miles )

My concern was mostly the height of the implement and it not being too tall.

I use a 7' Handles it fine, just have to be careful on the turns
I would prob buy a 6'

It's probably me worrying too much. I was concerned that the 6' rake is so much taller than the 5' that it could cause issues. But since I have a hydraulic top link, I should have full adjustability to raise and lower it with no issues.

Not on the King Kutters at Rural King, they are substantially different height, thicker frame, longer tines, etc. Everything about the 6 footer is much beefier than the 5 footer.

I would guess the 5 footer King Kutter is the XP series?

If so, they are designed to fit better on sub compacts with a "limited cat 1" hitch. I purchased the 5 footer XP King Kutter as it was a better fit on my B7100 than a standard cat one implement. I run it on my L2501 without issues but I am very careful to not tear it up. Just use it for raking debris off trails.

Besides being designed for the sub compact 3pt hitch being closer to the ground I believe the bottom pins are a tad closer together than a standard Cat one implement. I would have to double check on that though.

If I had not already had the XP King Kutter 5 foot rake there is no way I would have purchased it for my L series. I would have gone with a standard Cat 1 seven foot model.

Yeah that would be my guess. All along I kept thinking the 5 footer looked like it was designed for a sub-compact tractor because it's just so much smaller than the 6 footer they have sitting beside it.

Typically King Kutter's XP series of implements will be painted orange while what they call their "standard products" are going to be painted their yellow. I believe perhaps the professional series might also be available in a green but normally again , in yellow.
