I fully understand. But, I’m just trying to figure out why the D1703 vents the CCV/PCV gasses back through the intake manifold and not to atmosphere, or the ground and why I should route these gasses differently with the Turbo.

You could have a runaway diesel scenario N/A or Turbocharged.

I have zero reservations venting these gasses to the ground, or atmosphere (it’s easier) but it’s imperative that I understand the rationale between the OEM operation and the suggested modification.

It's more likely to runaway with the crank case vent going to the intake.
The only reason I can see for running the pcv back to the intake is environmental, you drip a few less drops of oil on the ground and it might help the engine get slightly, probably not measurable better fuel economy.

It would make sense that Kubota is running the gasses back through the intake for Tier 4 emissions requirements.

All that does is virtue signal, drive up tractor costs.
This will only accomplish making 40 year old tractors last another 40 years.

Perhaps a silly question... In your description of the installation design and the process of installation I'm not sure I read about how you sourced oil to pressure lube the turbo. Did I miss this?

Also... just a casual observation from a different industry. EGT readings are highly subjective. They are subject to large variations based on probe location. In one test we saw a 50 degree difference in EGT reading when we moved the probe from one side of the exhaust pipe to the other - all other variables were the same. Distances between the exhaust valve and probe, angle at which the exhaust impinges on the probe... all these little things produce measurable differences in sensed EGT. I only mention this because you have discussed EGT in terms of absolute values when, in fact, those absolute values can only be meaningful when comparing identical EGT probe locations.

Now you've got me thinking that my little B2410 might need some "help" making more power to deal with heavy snow-blowing loads. Ohhh this is the kind of thinking that gets me in trouble!!!!
In a perfect world you should be reading temp right from the exhaust port on the engine. Realistically preturbo in the exhaust manifold, preferably in one of the hotter running cylinders.

Mike,

Please don't do any kind of crankcase to intake feed on a diesel. Yes, it's nice for the environment to burn up your crankcase vapors. No, it's not safe on a mechanical diesel.

If your engine starts to malfunction - e.g. busted or bad leaking rings and gets blowby or fails otherwise (diesel in oil and surely other issues) having a crankcase feed to intake will and has caused runaway dieseling which will grenade your motor and tractor. The pcv thing feeds to a dump tube to atmosphere for a reason.

I've seen engines run away form a lot of things, the crank case vent has never been one of them. Turbo, broken rings, mis aligned Piston cooling nozzles, fuel racks sticking. Never once seen or heard of the vent causing this. It's unrealistic at best and a lot of diesels engines have closed loop crank case vent systems.

I'm reading the EGT temperature pre-turbo in the Turbo adapter, which, in this case, appeared to be the best compromise.

Tractor is continuing to run strong with more than enough power to accomplish all tasks. I haven't experienced any hiccups or issues with the Turbo setup installed.

I'll be installing a couple new hose clamps on the Turbo inlet pipe to match the other clamps and I'm considering installing some steel-braided lines for the Turbo oil feed and drain.

Swapping the hose clamps was solely done for aesthetics. Obviously, this small modification wasn’t necessary. The old hose clamps work just as well as the new T-clamps. I just like things to match and look ‘clean’.

Totally! They're not entirely necessary depending on the circumstances.

Finally! I have found the elusive PTO Dynamometer and a shop eager to test my L2501 Turbo!!!

I'm sure if someone is interested, I can put something together for them. And, I’m still planning on changing/upgrading the Turbo oil feed/return setup. So, I can definitely put a parts list together but, right now it’s still evolving.
