curious, why the hole ? Why the welded bar ?
if all original, I understand why it'd break there. Really, really BAD engineering.

Looks like a stress riser from the weld. Possibly cracked and welded and then cracked again?

Question, how can you tell it's a crack vs weld separation by looking at that pic? To me it looks like the latter, and have experienced that on my drawbar receiver.

It's not a weld line that is a solid plate with reinforcements added.
The notch with the bar above is for axle clearance.

Curious...Is there some GOOD reason that welded bar didn't extend PAST the big friggin hole ???

It could easily be fixed by a good fabricator.
Grind part of the existing doubler plate off, grind a V in the crack on both sides, weld the crack up, extend the doubler plate past the hole to add strength to the frame. Add doubler plate to the other side. Simple fix!!!

Pretty simple fix for a good gab guy. Probably takes longer to clean it up than the actual welding.
I would go a bit further and plate it like we do with tractor trailer cut offs

Right On North Idaho Wolfman, it is just above weld, cracked thu both sides. I’m thinking 7018 up hill, but have a welder coming that’s been around from underwater welding in navy to now pipeline welding.
Was having Steering Cylinder rebuilt, by Kubota shop Mechanic when he spotted break in frame. It took him 6 hours to remove, rebuild, reinstall and refill hydraulic oil and work air off system.
He furnished all tools except 3, I had aluminum 1” punch, 2 small steel punches.
All for $300 + 2 Dr. Peppers
I have him coming back to repair MF 135 hydraulics.

Thinking along same lines, have material, welding machine, torch, grinder, metal chop saw, rods, I’m just lacking experience I have not welded in 3 years, actually getting 1st cousin to repair, he’s coming in off pipeline welding.
