While discussing birds…on an oak tree in our backyard we have an owl-box… and have a current mouse-murderer resident, who lives rent-free…
Showed this to my Dear Wife…. (the REAL birder in the family)….and she did what most wives do when she saw it…..she immediately remarked, “WELL.. I see he wore his BEST SHIRT for a Video!”Surely not at your current rate of consumption (1.25 Gal /day). But it wasnt really a serious suggestion anyway.
Found the vid tho.
Your hummers are a lot less territorial than mine. There's always a big fight going on around my feeders, with one of the hummers driving away all the others. I put up 3 different feeders and the hummers buzz from one feeder to the others, chasing each other.I took this video a couple of summers ago looking out of one of the kitchen windows, and it amused me to watch these incredible creatures doing what they do as Pavarotti sang Nessun dorma in the background.
I'm no hummingbird expert but some varieties are more aggressive than others. The Black-Chinned and Ruby-Throated seem to be the most aggressive up here. I have three feeders up but don't get that many birds to be honest. Just a consistent stream of a few all day long.Your hummers are a lot less territorial than mine. Great shots - love the Rufous male at the end.Much better photos with the ancient Nikon D80, and these were taken through a closed kitchen window.
