I appreciate all the advice. Planning to look at both the L4701HST and the MX5400HST.

To the comment about the “grapple.” YES, the thought had likewise crossed my mind as well. Although I didn’t see one offered by LandPride, only Atlas.

For either of these larger machines, are front facing lights only mountable on the ROPS, or a canopy on the ROPS?
There are lots of grapple manufacturers and sellers, Everthing Attachments, Varig, Loflin, MTL Attachments. The MX has a very capable loader and will handle a 60”-66” wide 500lb - 600lb grapple with ease. You will need the dealer to fit a third function kit to use a grapple, remember loaded rear tires.

Are there limits to lighting you can put on these tractors? Or is simply about having enough supplemental batteries for the extra lights? Not looking to overtax the tractor’s electrical system, but if the Kubota light kids are anything like those for riding lawn mowers, I fear they will be lacking the brightness I need to work.

Again, appreciate the advice, as well as the humor.

Use LED lights and you can really light it up and not hurt the electrical system.

Is the MX4800 discontinued?
New, yes. They only make MX5400 and MX6000

MX is a great machine. Not a deluxe tractor, but all the features you need to get the job done. Much more deluxe than the L01 series with more weight, lift, and capability in just about every category. It is the largest Kubota you can get in HST transmission. THe next setup up is the M6060, which is a full utility/ag tractor. We have one…wonderful machine but its for field work.

Hey I’m 6’ 6” and I’m buying a B2601 and I know I’m going to look like I’m riding a go cart.

I thought about this today while hauling logs from the creek bottom with my L4701. If I was 6’ 6”, 340lb instead of 5’ 11”, 210lb would this operator station be cramped? I’ve never been 6’ 6” so how would I know? My son is 6’ 5” or so and about 250lb but he’s not here and he’s never driven it so that’s not helpful. Then I had a really useful thought: I’m driving a 7’ x 32” white oak log in the grapple up a 8.5/12 slope 10” from a 50’ shear drop; maybe I should quit thinking about hypotheticals and pay attention to what I’m doing. Then I thought, this is one of the reasons I don’t have something even slightly bigger, because we’d need a bulldozer to take out about 200 mature trees to widen this crazy side sloped trail down the face of this drop off.

Later I thought you pretty much have to sit your butt in the seat to know what’s comfortable for you. Not sure there’s any substitute for that.

If anyone wonders what a L4701 will pick up, it will pick up this; and this is about all it will pick up. It was what I was toddling up the trail with while pondering the difficulties of persons larger than average. My wife called to discuss dinner so I stopped at the top of the roomy and relatively flat ridge to talk to her and took the opportunity to document the max loader capacity of the L4701/LA765 in practice before continuing to the wood yard as I can’t hear her adequately over the sound of the engine. I hear the MX will pick up more.

Called the local dealer. Got descent quotes on both the L4701HST and the MX5400HST. Both ROPS only. Both with loaders.

Then he states that don’t have either in stock and states perhaps by spring. 😳

Particularly in your situation it sucks you can’t go sit on them. I’d wonder if there’s someone near you who would let you see them in person or possibly if the dealer could arrange that when one is in for service. Was just thinking if my dealer called and said they had someone a bit bigger or smaller than “average” that really wanted to check out how they fit on a L4701 I’d be fine with that so long as it wasn’t often.

I'm 6'2" and 215 or so, but I can tell you a MX sitting area is absolutely huge in every dimension in comparison to my L2501. The L4701 is in between the sizes with a bit less features, smaller wheels and tires, and the MX also lets you use weights on the rear wheels if you want. The front tires are also noticeably wider as is the entire tractor which helps with stability.

If you can't tell, I really like the MX. For my uses, I couldn't justify the extra money.

One of my local dealers strongly encouraged the MX compared to L4701 mainly due to the relatively low cost difference between them for a much more capable tractor.

Does this look to small?
It does look small, but is the seat all of the way back? Check to see if the treadle pedal is in a good place for you. I like my leg pretty extended, but others, may have a different idea.

Really depends on how it feels to you, not how it looks. But you did ask, and honestly yeah that looks pretty dang tight. For instance I’m assuming the height control for the 3 point is in between the right fender and seat but I can’t even see it, so maybe it isn’t there?

It isn’t quite Humphrey the Bear on the pocket bike riding around the circus ring so if it’s comfortable, swell. If it isn’t comfortable, I’d skip it.

And if you may sometimes run it 8 to 12 hours or more straight, being able to shift to a little different position to minimize fatigue can get to be important.

No but, why does that tractor look so spartan? Where is is the bucket? Front hydro lines? There's no levers on the fender??
I guess I'm outing myself as a Kubota Newb.....

Would the pedal placement of DT afford more room then the HST?
FWIW, here is a pic of the pedals on a DT L series (nearly identical to the L2501).

Gear drive isn’t for everyone though depending on your intended usage. My biggest complaint on mine is lack of live pto.
