Maybe someone with DC barrel connector experience can clear things up for me.
I am wanting to order a adapter for a backup power source (12v 3amp output) that has a male barrel connector that measures 5.5 mm outside with a inside dia of 2.3 mm.

Which female adapter would I need to fit the male connector. It seems that the inside diameter of 2.3mm does match up with the adapters I am finding online. Either 2.1 or 2.5 mm is offered for the ID. Note: I do not know what the pin diameter would be.

I am including a picture of the male end on the power source and the dimensions of the OD and ID.

Not that it should matter but the device I am powering also has a input rating of 12v 3amp but has a socket/female that uses a male 6.3mm x 3mm end.

As a side note I miss the days of being able to run into my small town to the local Radio Shack and leave with parts I know will fit. :)

That sure looks like THESE I see that you say your inside id is different. I have used dozens of these in video camera installations in the woods here. Pretty much a standard.

That’s my problem. The outside dimension is 5.5mm and I have the choice of either a 2.1 or 2.5mm inside. Mine measures in between these at 2.3mm. I have nothing to measure to know what the pin sizes are.

What are you measuring the diameter with? If you are using calipers they are notoriously inaccurate to measure the ID of small holes.

Do you have a set of drill bits by 1/64" sizes? Find the drill bit shank that just fits in the hole and measure that OD with your calipers.

Cheap micrometers are cheap at lots of places.
Everybody needs a micrometer of some sort.

Great advice, thank you! After finding my closest drill I have( #46 .081 ) and recalculating it will be the 2.1mm ID x 5.5 OD adapter.

I do have a micrometers but what my sub par English skills meant to say was that I did not have a matching female connector with the pin that would have allowed me to measure the pin diameter but I do thank you for your input! :)

Torch..... offered the exact suggestion that I was intending.
I was unaware that you actually did have a micrometer.

I was in walmart this past week looking for a male/ female extension for that same kind of connector for my laptop. I had checked online and they carried several but the store had nothing. I ask the employee that ask if I needed help. He said they had nothing like it but maybe online.

Like you I thought of the days of going into Radio Shack for all kinds of bits and pieces. It is a shame sometimes everything is online.

Makes me feel older than my 69 years sometimes too.

My small town still has a Radio Shack

So does Radio Shack still exist?

Short answer: Radio Shack proper still lives online, albeit with a slimmer catalog. Meanwhile, about 400 stores bearing the Radio Shack name operate independently of REV, Associated Press reports.

There were around 5,200 stores operating as recently as 2014, according to CNN. As of 2017’s bankruptcy filing, there were around 1,500 stores, hundreds of which have since shuttered.

But Radio Shack may find a new life in an unlikely place — the blockchain.

In December, REV announced it’s creating the RadioShack DeFi cryptocurrency platform, which the company says will let customers trade existing crypto coins for “RADIO” tokens. In its announcement, the company says RadioShack and its name recognition can help break down the psychological barrier to crypto adoption by older people.

“The older generation simply doesn’t trust the new-fangled ideas of the Bitcoin youth. The need for a bridge between the CEOs who control the world’s corporations and the new world of cryptocurrencies will most likely come in the form of a well-known, century-old brand.”

.
Radio Shack would have celebrated its 100th anniversary last year.

"TheSource" replaced Radio Shack here in Canada.

I bet you could not find even a common resistor (of any value) or roll of solder in one of those stores today.
