DHH has good prices for custom hose assemblies but $22 would be for a 1 foot hose. A 4" hose is $28 + $15 shipping and tax so it winds up being closer to $45. The U type fittings you priced will be bubble crimps which have a larger diameter than a full shell crimp so make sure you have room to thread them through any openings and connected.

Dan
I'm not following you. I put the specs into their calculator...60" hose + those fittings + assembly fee. $22 was the calculation, plus shipping. What am I missing?

Don't know. Here is what I get:

FJX90-04-06 - $8.62
FJX-04-06 - $3.06
R17-04 x 60" - $8.40
Assembly - $10.00

Total $30.08

OK. I follow. With specific fitting as above, that's what I get. Don't know shipping costs...better hurry since fuel is going up so quickly! :) That total is quite a departure from dealer cost of $95. Given...I believe the dealer hose was greater psi...which doesn't make sense since the BX series doesn't generate over 2000, IIRC.

Thanks for taking time. I think I'm on to something. :)

If I remember correctly, they charge actual shipping, so you save if you buy several at one time.

I do a couple thousand dollars of business with them each year. Their flat rate shipping is reasonable and because they are nearby I usually get my Fedex and UPS orders next business day. Hose gets bulky which puts you into the weight and volume rates which are a bit higher especially if you are in a different zone.

There are 2 90 degree fittings with a longer tubing at the 90 degree bend. They are both for 1/4" hose. Is the other measurement for the ID of the aluminum tubing with the bend? One says 3/8" and one is 1/4". I know that a longer 90 degree tube is required for the upper row of tubes hoses on that control valve. The lower row fits under those and have a shorter 90 degree tube.

Here's the web listing. The -04-06 and -04-04 must have to do with the actual hose size?

FJX90L-04-06 | 1/4" Hose x 3/8" JIC Female Swivel 90° Long (FJX90L-04-06)

FJX90L-04-04 | 1/4" Hose x 1/4" JIC Female Swivel 90° Long (FJX90L-04-04)

With my current BT600 set up, some of those aluminum tubings look like 1/4" and a couple of them 3/8". Since I want to have smaller OD hoses, which would be the best? (And, forgive me, but one would think that these kinds of specs would be available at the dealer. They told me to go to a local hydraulic shop and ask them! If this dealer was a bit more helpful, they could cultivate me into a regular customer. But, now, I probably will buy elsewhere, even having to pay shipping. And, maybe they can't be bothered with this kind of thing. More money is in the actual repair...and I understand. I don't like it but I understand. :)

The dash numbers tell you the size of the hose and end fitting which are not always the same. The first number is the hose dash size - e.g - 04 is 1/4" hose. The second dash number tells you the size of the end fitting. e.g -06 is 3/8". Examples:

FJX = JIC female swivel end

FJX-04-04 is a a 1/4" hose fitting with a 1/4" female JIC swivel end thread (7/16-20)
FJX-04-06 is a 1/4" hose fitting with a 3/8" female JIC swivel end thread (9/16-18)
FJX-06-06 is a 3/8" hose fitting with a 3/8" female JIC swivel end thread (9/16-18)
FJX-06-08 is a 3/8" hose fitting with a 1/2" female JIC swivel end thread (3/4-16)

And the list goes on and on and on....

OK. Thanks for this. I am going to have to let this register.

I have gone to the thread ID guide on the dhh web page and am getting the hang of this. I understand the 37 flare, etc. I don't have a thread count tool to know that measurement but I can measure the ID and the OD of current fittings. Will this allow me enough info to order the correct size. Hose...no problem...JIC 37 flare...no problem. A little shaky on the size of the female connecting nut.

You dint need to worry about thread pitch or nut size on JIC fittings. All you need do is measure the size of the thread on the male fitting and use your thread chart: i expect you will only see these two:

-06 = 9/16"
-08 = 3/4"

After you have done it long enough you won't need to measure - the difference is obvious.

The threads on JIC fittings are the same as fine-thread SAE (imperial) bolts.
I went to the local hardware store and bought a couple of bolts to use as gages. With your 1/4" hoses, your most likely size fittings are
-4 7/16"-20
-6 9/16"-18
The bolt length doesn't matter. If it screws freely, but not loose, in the fitting, that's a match. You may want to get matching nuts to verify your male fittings. Make sure you get fine thread bolts and nuts.

OK, got it. With your help, OldHokie and PoTreeBoy, I've learned and I thank you. And,
I did smile, OldHokie, when you said..."after doing it a while, it is obvious." I'm sure that's
the truth. Will I last that long? :)

You will last that long - by the time you are done with this project you will be able to eyeball them. -06, -08, -10, -12 are all easy to ID.. -05 is not a common size but I have an application that uses it. It is too close to -06 to eyeball and I have to measure the threads to be sure.

I'm going to start with replacing a hose that doesn't leak yet but it looks like it could at
any time. This way, if I get the wrong thing, I can still operate.

So, here's my ignorance. I understand that a 4 dash size is 1/4" ID hose, so I'm going with the -4 hose. The OD of that hose is 0.047". The length of the hose (without fittings) is 14". One end fitting, has a female swivel with an ID of 0.5003 according to my caliper measurement. The other end needs a quick coupler so the hose itself would need a male fitting to attach to the quick coupler which has an ID of 0.4305. These numbers don't seem to fit with the discount hydraulics fittings. I know my measuring is suspect but I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.

In addition, there are hydraulic hoses with fittings on ebay. Would these be a good choice if I can find the size? Bear with me on this...I'll get it one of these days...I hope.

In re-reading the above posts that are trying to help, TheOldHokie has said to just measure the thread on the male fitting. Measurements are not consistent but they range from 0.539-
0.5695. Squeezing too hard on the calipers, perhaps?

If the male measurements are correct, then it seems I would need this:

-06 – 18 ⁄ (0.56") ⁄ (0.51")

Am I getting close?

You first have to identify the type of the fitting - JIC vs pipe for example. Then you measure. Based on the measurements I suspect .503 is -06 JIC and .403 is is 1/4 NPT which is -04 in pipe. Post pictures of the ends to help with the guessing. Your quick coupler is most likely female pipe.

I'll get pictures tomorrow. I know I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill but being dense is one of my stronger points. :)

Fun, Dan? I'm glad to hear it. For me...a bit frustrating, but I'll come around before long. :) I appreciate that you're willing to stick with this.

It's too dark in the garage to get pictures today...storm is upon us for now. But, I did come upon a couple of other things. I bought some of the female caps and male plugs to put in place when I've removed hoses...to keep them clean and keep fluid from getting all over the place.

So, I've measured those...female cap is 1/2" ID; male plug is 17/32". I've taken a picture of that and maybe it will tell something. In looking at the chart at DHH in the thread guide section and those sizes don't seem to fit together. Here's the picture with a similar hose and fitting, the stop fluid bolt and the fluid cap with the caliper showing 1/2".

This is saying that you posted, TheOldHokie, but no reply is showing...only my post. Are you over it? :)
