My MX4800 cranks too slow to start without the help of a jump battery now that it is cold outside. Any recommendations for a high quality, long lasting replacement battery? The one that is in my machine has no markings on it so I have no idea what size / spec it is and I don't know the OEM size either.

Thanks

Just a quick look at messicks shows the OE battery is a 80D26R (JIS number), which would convert to a group 24 battery.

Do you see the JIS number on the battery label?

Pending the battery's age/condition confirm that the posts, terminals and connection points (positive/negative) are clean (not just tight!), if a replacement is deemed necessary, take the three measurements and get one with the highest cold cranking amps that fits.

if you do replace the battery, install new battery cables as well. Just because they're 'clean' doesn't mean they're 100%. They corrode from the inside out and you'll get the 'weak battery- slow crank' problem.
if you remove the battery and connect to your truck battery and starter spins great, then not usually corroded cables but heck, batterys out, take 1/2hr,replace now instead of 1-2 years from now ??

Go to local Wallymart!
Buy their group 24 "EverStart Maxx"
Best bang for the buck in the battery market.

Go for "Interstate" ( $$$ ) though,..... if you are tuned into their advertising hype!

What viscosity oil are you running? When I went from 15W-40 to 5W-40, both Rotella T6, it made a noticeable increase in cranking speed.

As for battery, measure the space for it, including the height, and note which side the positive post is on. Buy the biggest one that'll fit. I was able to put a truck battery in the Ford, and it was cheaper since the NAPA store bought them by the pallet.

That is a good question...The previous owner changed the oil recently but didn't note what weight.

Asking for a battery recommendation is like asking for oil recommendations. Everyone is going to tell you that their brand is the absolute best and everyone else’s is junk. Fact of the matter is, there is only 2 or 3 companies that make all the batteries on the market and sell them under many different labels. Buy the highest cranking amp battery you can find that will fit in the space. When I replaced my 10 year old battery last year, my dealer had the best price of anyone around, including Wally World which some people like to support and all the auto parts stores.

Yup!
The biggest (heaviest) battery contains the most lead, and is usually the most capable.

I like the Absorbent Glass Mat / AGM type, they are a bit more money, but seem to last longer, and have a good reputation.

Thx folks. I ended up with one from the dealership which is supposed to be a private label interstate battery.

looks like my old one was cracked and leaking acid from the bottom…the steel at the mounting location confirms it.

Contrary to popular belief, Interstate does not actually MAKE batteries!
They are a marketing group called Brookfield Business Partners, and apparently contract with varied battery manufacturers for inventory.

They are also into property management and own a bunch of shopping centers! The only reason that I know this is because I bought some bonds that they had issued. I think that they are paying about 4 1/2%. I wasn't aware that they owned Interstate Battery.

hopefully you'll pour a LOT of water/baking soda mixture where that battery was !!! Pour. let it fizz, pour some fresh water on it, repeat until no more fizzies.....

Boil some water, take it off the stove, add baking soda, pour it on, watch the magic. Hit it with some good paint.

Too late now!
That potion will not easily remove the already applied Fluid Film.

They also own Johnson Controls automotive battery division.
