Your BH77 backhoe will be great ballast. If you swing it to the side, the rear clearance isn’t bad either. I usually have either my BH77 backhoe or my box blade on if I need ballast. I have never really considered having a dedicated ballast. But if you need the extra clearance in back …..

Ditto. Heavy ballast box would be great if I needed for space concerns, but I've not needed extra space back there so far. I leave the BH on most of the time and since it's back there I find all kinds of uses for it.

Made mine last year from a slightly used 10x24x30 electrical panel, TSC draw bar, some angle iron, and a 2" receiver. The draw bar is bolted thru the back of the panel with long bolts so the heads would be well burried in the concrete. Calculates out to about 550 lbs and works great. Zero issues with the rear end getting light on my LX2610.

That’s definitely pretty sweet! I guess before now I hadn’t considered a general purpose tool carrier on top of having the extra weight for using the loader.
I’m also curious if others use fluid filled tires?

I have rim guard filled tires + ballast box the grapple + curl breakout force allowed me to pickup a log the FEL couldn't lift

Maxed out B2650 FEL lift capacity

Had a dead tree at the top of the driveway hillside. Dropped it before it fell in the driveway. Used 2 snatch blocks, 200+ feet of wire cable to increase tractors pulling power 3X. Saved 2 logs for lumber logs. B2650, LA534 loader and LP0660 grapple. FEL could not lift it. Curled grapple down...

Even a light RB is enough. A sales guy brought the Woods BB by last week and used a strap around the BB and FEL to lift the 518 # thing off a pallet in the back of his F-150 with the B2601 and only a light Frontier RB2048 on the back. Rear wheels were supposed to be loaded. I haven't check them yet. Probably are.

The Woods unit was all the way in front of the FEL: lots of weight way out there.

I went with an 800lb lead filled box. I was looking for super dense and I couldn't afford gold.

My ballast box is my second most used attachment.

I would be careful with all that lead,, I know guys that cast their own booolets and lead is getting hard to find

I needed some ballast for a grapple. I also wanted a carry-all/work platform, so I combined the 2. The 4x4 box steel is filled with concrete. I had a couple mis-matched wheel weights that I made a cradle for to carry under the plat form. I can removed the wheel weights fairly easy by removing 2 bolts, setting on the ground, & driving away. I have about 650lbs or 350lbs or nothing as needed.


I’ll paint it when I’m done adding to it.
