I would assume that he added a seal and used grease insteadI don't get the first photo. Do you mean the OP never put a bushing in there?
In the second photo there should be a square bolt there.
Where's the drain plug for the steering box? Is it the hard to reach plug on the right hand side of the box if your sitting on the tractor? Here's what the PO did to my L1500. I made a seal for the top. Pumped a few squirts of grease in the fitting and tightened to adjustment some.
I like it, nice work. These two pictures are not very good, but will give some idea of my upper bushing.
Thanks i like the bushing idea. I was actually wondering where the oil drain was for the steering box. I located the fill plug. I was considering changing the fill plug to a zirc fitting, draining the oil and packing the steering box with grade zero molly grease since it's stored out side.Darren, as far as I can determine the L1500 had a weep hole at the bottom of the tubing for the steering shaft on the front side, hard to see or get to. It wasn't to be found with my eyes!
I had everything pretty well stripped down. There was nothing at the top of the housing right under the steering wheel. I took a brass bushing the just fit over the shaft and had a hard rubber piece I made to drive the bushing into and then drive the bushing into the housing. It was an interference fit with the rubber plug and the housing. I put a cone of heavy grease on top of the whole configuration right under the steering wheel hub.
The steering wheel covers the top of the shaft real good. I keep the tractor under cover for added protection.
These two pictures are not very good, but will give some idea of my upper bushing.
Spot on!I'm still trying to sort out the wiring that has been "Thai'd" on the old girl. I'm guessing the fixture on the engine block with the blue wire just above the starter is the oil pressure sending unit?
Thanks Anders. BTW, I spent Christmas and New Years in Palma many years ago - outstanding!Spot on!

I agree! Thanks Anders. BTW, I spent Christmas and New Years in Palma many years ago - outstanding!
That's what I was hoping it was for. Thanks!TC, that is where you adjust the shaft play. There's a cover with an adjustment under it. Requires a flat blade screwdriver.
