OK, I'm curious.....
What keeps the spear from falling out ?
The end is 'tapered' and threaded. Fits into the sleeve. Then you just tighten the nut on the back side to capture it.

When you want to remove it, remove the nut, tap the spear and it comes loose.

OK, big black nut ! To me the first picture the nut looked like a 'ball end'.
Joys of occular migraines and not seeing different black things easily.....
I'd have to paint that point yellow AFTER getting skewered by it the 2nd time ......

Just curious if the sleeve inner part is tapered also? I doubt it but just curious if it is.

I've had a couple that are tapered and when sucked into the tapered sleeve don't come out easily. They are not really made to be quickly removed in my opinion.

The sleeve is not tapered and I am glad it is not. Else, it would be very difficult to remove the hay spear. As it is.....it already is a snug and rigid fit.

If lots of Neverseize was used to 'lube' the tapers, then a good whack with a 5" hammer will set it free.
Trick is to undo nut until flush with the threads, then a solid 'straight on' whack ,maybe 2.
