    Snow chains…do I need them?

I live in CO at 6000' I've never needed chains to plow a gravel & dirt 300 ' driveway to a barn. I have R1, unloaded tires and use the back blade reversed and rotated about 15 degrees while backing the tractor to push the snow. I don't try to scrape it down to the gravel This has worked for up...

    Land Pride blade nut

Even on a RCR 1248 the blade nuts torque to 450 ft-lbs. They can be removed with an impact wrench but I agree with Russel, the torque multiplier makes the job easier.

    Another layer of theft deterrence

BAP - appreciate the thoughts. After nearly 3 years of reading OTT I knew what the range of responses would be and it's good for all readers to see others input. The active security system for 4 and 2 legged intruders also includes guard dogs (GSDs) and one really mean llama.

    Another layer of theft deterrence

Disclaimer: I've been a member for awhile but haven't posted enough to not be a "new member". I have no connection of any type to the product or company I'll be discussing and bought it with no strings attached at full price. I've wanted to add an electrical circuit interruption option to my...

    algae in fuel

They make 4 different models, they all use the same filter process but are different sizes but more importantly have different filter rates. Pick the filter rate that fits your need.

    RCR 1248 blade nut

Thanks for the education! I wasn't familiar with this type of locking nut. Removing it distorts the locking threads necessitating is replacement. That also explains the torque spec, 450 ft-lbs.

    RCR 1248 blade nut

The owners manual refers to the nut as a lock nut and that the nut should be replaced with a new nut after removal. I'm not the original owner of this equipment, don't know if this is OEM but it doesn't look like a locking nut. Any information would be appreciated.

Removing T-Posts - almost fell over

I've had that experience too many times with various tractors and appropriate rear weighting. I use a HiLift jack, it only takes 2-3 minutes. The tractor hauls the posts and jack. Much safer and very little effort.

SVL-75-2 track loader reverse camera mount

As much as I like the sliding door of my SSV the arc it swings through in the cab limits how far forward and how high you can place the mount on the side panel. It also prevents using the cab pillars or the area above the door. Look for a long, articulated mounting arm and bracket to position...

    Right to Repair

This link will take you to a executive summary of the bill as well as a PDF of the actual bill, https://leg.colorado.gov/bills/hb23-1011. I could not make this a link you can open from here. You may need to cut and paste.

    Right to Repair

Colorado legislature passed and the Govenor signed the right to repair act. It's ostensibly aimed at farm equipment operators but may effect us all. Like most legislation it will probably have positive and negative effects. Apparently several states are considering similar measures.

    Knee pain from HST?

There are several causes for unilateral (one sided) knee pain and swelling. Some of them require emergent treatment to prevent permanent joint destruction. This is especially true if the knee appears red or feels hot. If it literally feels like there is fluid in the knee joint it will really...

    Installing a block heater

A lower radiator house heater is another option. I have a block heater in one machine and a radiator hose heater in another, they are equally effective, including in sub zero (F) temperatures. They take about the same amount of time to warm the engine. My current radiator hose heater is at...

2021 SSV65 Amber warning light information (or lack thereof)

You can buy an over the tire tread (OTT) that puts a track over the tires, they are supposed to improve traction. They may result in the machine floating over the snow. They come in various designs incorporating steel and rubber. They are pricey. I have no personal experience to share.

2021 SSV65 Amber warning light information (or lack thereof)

Check in your owner's manual under "starting the engine under cold conditions". The initial RPM is limited until the engine reaches a specific temperature. The flashing amber light and beep indicate the limited RPM state. It doesn't specify what ambient temperature is "cold" and the engine temp...
