Well, to my surprise the shear bolt went on my wood chipper today. Woodland Mills lists the replacement as a 'HEX BOLT, M8 X 1.25, 50 mm LG, 22 mm LG THD'. It will take a while to order one from WM. My question; is there a bolt I could buy at the local hardware store that would be okay to use until the replacement arrives? I'd be inclined to get stainless but don't know if the bolt would be too strong to shear if necessary.
Then there's the question of why did the bolt shear? When it went, I was chipping a 2" dia piece of maple.
