    Proper way to bench-test starter?

Update: Proper way to bench-test starter? With the starter clamped to a bench and using a hot battery, with jumper cable negative clamped to frame of starter tested by: 1) clamping positive to B terminal, jumping from positive to S terminal; 2) touching positive to S terminal; 3) touching...

    Proper way to bench-test starter?

My procedure for testing starter is: 1) Clamp or fastern to bench; 2) Clamp negative battery cable to frame of starter; 3) Run jumper to starter terminal; 4) Touch positive battery cable to solenoid post; 5) Smile when solenoid engages and starter spins. What am I missing? Thanks!

    L1500 Selling price

Are you in Beauregard Parish? NIW's suggestion about CL is a great one for seeing the asking prices. And you might get a good idea of what the old iron sold for by checking TractorHouse.com and AuctionTime.com and looking up the sold and closed auctions. Best wishes for your mother's success.

gettin to be that time of year...

Hmm... Santa is making a note to put a timepiece to TJ's Christmas stocking. Maybe a pocket watch, or maybe it needs to be one with great big numbers. Or perhaps it needs to be one that announces the time...

    Can't crank B6100

Thanks, TJ, both good suggestions. With the FEL in the way and the big clamps on the battery cables, I can't do either. Thought about making a couple of short extensions to screw on the terminals, but that's just avoiding what is the most logical next step: pull the starter. <sob>

    Can't crank B6100

Update: Can't crank B6100 Thought the battery was "blown" because it had ~13.5V and each cell's specific gravity was 1.29 on each end and the other four were 1.3. Got a 550CCA 51R, hooked it up and... nada. Exactly the same: short B-terminal to S-terminal, expecting the starter to spin and...

Will a b6200 fit the bill?

Hi burhead, welcome to OTT! Everything that's been said is dead on. 1100 hours is great -- nicely broken in, ready for a long life of dependable service. JosephC makes a good point about balance -- with a big brush hog or any kind of mower or tiller of any size and weight, you need weight on...

Weights VS hydro lines L 3800

As already advised, with an FEL on your tractor, front weights aren't useful. However, if you pick up a good load in the bucket, you'll wish you had that weight on the back end -- particularly if you aren't traversing level, hard ground! You might want to get your dealer to exchange them for...

    Glow plugs

The diesels do. If somebody put a gasoline-powered motor or an electric motor in it, they probably wouldn't have kept the glow plugs. Why are you curious if the M4900 has them? I'm surmising that your friend is having trouble and thinks the glow plugs might be malfunctioning. If so, I think you...

New Clutch Installed unable to adjust

When I was a kid I had that problem with a '58 Chevy. I had put the pressure plate in backwards. Everything looked hunky-dory, but no travel.

Finally realized Svc Dpt Vic is pulling my leg: 850CCA?!!

Okay, guys, thanks! I really was only hoping for a little information, and instead you gave me a wealth of knowledge. I use the tractor on such an irregular basis that I plan to add a battery minder to it. Short-term I have to do something quick and the cheapest I can find. After the stalled...

Finally realized Svc Dpt Vic is pulling my leg: 850CCA?!!

<snarl> Oh, great! Let a lady in (and a sheepfarmer to boot!) and she embarrasses the ol cowhand by underscoring the obvious! {sound of grinding teeth} My manual (now that I've checked it... duh!) says, "12V 45Ah". What? I doubt that a 45Ah battery could approach 500CCA, and I don't want to...

Finally realized Svc Dpt Vic is pulling my leg: 850CCA?!!

Read the Battery Basics article and went looking for Service Dept Vic's recommendation: an 850CCA battery. <sigh> No doubt somebody around here stocks a 51R 850CCA battery, but even NAPA doesn't, and I couldn't find one more powerful than 500CA/400CCA. I might have "settled" for the 500CA...

    Exhaust Manifold Stud Size?

I just bought nuts and washers for my B6100's muffler and the manifold studs/nuts appear to be the same size: M8x1.25. Best to take a nut with you to verify.

Thanks for the vid. I like the Bradco vids better (even though they are different than your model). Okay, so you won't get flamed (by me anyway, but I'm hoping skeets will take up my slack :D) for not posting pics, but I'd really like to see pics of your setup, as well as the tooth arrangement...
