    Ice Crystals in the Diesel

Here in South Dakota, the gas stations switch to a 50/50 mix of #1 and #2 diesel as their "winter blend" around the first week of November. And the correct phrase is "colder than a wh@$&'s heart on GI payday".

    Tire sealant

The reason most tire guys hate the fix-flat stuff in the aerosol can is that the propellant used to be flammable. Pop the bead while you have a stogie in your mouth, and KABOOM. Not sure if they still use that propellant or if they changed it, but there are still probably some old cans rolling...

    Daily Chuckle

The priest, the drunkard, and the engineer. Stop me if you've heard this one..... A priest, a drunkard, and an engineer are condemned to death by guillotine. The executioner leads the priest to the guillotine, and prepares to stick his head in the yolk, when the priest asks to be placed with...

    What is/was your Profession?

Electronics and telecom, trained in the Coast Guard, then worked in the oil fields on the North Slope and offshore, logging camps, mining camps, fish canneries, and small villages all over Alaska. After almost 30 years, decided to relocate to the "lower 48", and picked South Dakota, pretty...

Block Heater. But What About Hydraulics?

I keep my BX in one of those small tents with the zip-up doors. I use a propane forced air heater for about 30-45 minutes before I start the tractor. Heats it up to around 65-79 degrees pretty quickly, since it's such a small space. Works great. I may install a block heater when I'm in there...

    Daily Chuckle

I too had an encounter with my electric fence this last summer. The goats were getting out of their pasture on a regular basis, so I completely replaced the field fencing with a 6-wire electric fence with a brand new charger, and an 8 foot ground rod. As I was running around tensioning the...

    B7200HST - Useable FEL Models & Availability?

How about using the subframe for a snowblower or front blade, and designing an adjustable height hitch? You would only get 3-4" of lift, but that should be enough. You could put a FEL on, and build something on an adapter plate, like those that converts it to a skid loader type mount, but the...

    BX Front Snow Blade options

I have the 2763a as well, with the hydraulic angle. IMHO, It's the only way fly. It does well clearing snow from the driveway, but you have to maintain a bit of forward speed to get the snow to roll off the blade. I usually make a second pass to push the new berm back a bit in preparation for...

    Kubota Skyroad G1

Found this odd looking Kubota industrial machine on the local CL, thought you all might enjoy checking it out. Looks very interesting. Wish I could find a use for it. Might make a decent fencing tractor. https://siouxfalls.craigslist.org/hvo/5953870724.html

BX2670 w/BX5450 Snowblower - How about a few operating tips?

As long as the shoes on the blower are present and properly adjusted, floating should be fine on an asphalt drive, especially if it's not perfectly flat. If there are a lot of cracks that are at differing heights, the shoes may catch-just set the blower all the way down, then raise it just a...

    Ground prep with B2650

I've had good luck using a tiller to reclaim ground, but if you're going to broadcast seed it, go over it with either a harrow or a fine landscaping rake, then use a water-filled roller to improve the dirt contact with the seeds, and water, water, water.

    Installing a block heater on a B2620

One quick note about those battery maintainers. Get one that has a 2-pole connector and longish cable so you can leave the maintainer in the shed and not on the tractor, as the vibration will rattle it to a premature death. I have an auxiliary DC power connector to run my sprayer and water...

    B20 Electrical Issue

Should be fine, as long as it's rated for 32 volts, like an AGC series Buss brand fuse. There actually is a difference between an AGC and a fuse rated for 250 volts, like those you find in an AC powered equipment, mostly to do with how the element inside blows, to prevent arcing inside the fuse.

    L3250 Injector Related Issues

I saw a problem similar to this on a gas engine that was caused by improper staggering of the ring gaps caused by an inexperienced "mechanic" rebuilding the engine. I would think this would show up in a compression test though. Could be improper end gap size though. Just my 2 cents worth, and...

    2360 Not Running In Cold

That's exactly how my 2360 acts when the diesel is starting to get slushy. The gas station says the diesel is a 50/50 mix this time of year, but I suspect it's somewhat less #1 and more #2 in order to make a few more cents per gallon. I usually just buy 5 gallons of #1, and dilute what's left...

    Salt in da wood stove

When I lived in Alaska, we burned lots of Birch every year on a daily basis and had quite a bit of creosote buildup. The roof was a gambrel style, and usually covered in snow and ice. About the second time I was up there, I made a modified cap that had a pipe across the middle, in the very top...

    MMM: Deck issues, questions RCK60-24B

I have the same deck, only for a BX2360. At least in the spring, I grease my deck before it goes under the tractor, while the blades and dust covers are still off. That helps with knowing how much grease to put in from the top zerk fittings. I lift the deck from the front middle anti scalp...

    Winter storage

If you think mice are bad, you should see what rabbits do. They chewed the plug wires, coil wires, injector wires, and washer fluid tubing off my kid's Taurus a couple years ago. Then they chewed off the O2 sensor wires on my truck! This caused several of them to expire from high speed lead...

    New BX - Electrical Gremlins

My BX2360 does something similar. The other day I found the left turn signal lamp on steady, with nothing else on. I unplugged the connector on the multi function switch, and the light stayed on, so it wasn't the switch. Guessing it was the flasher unit. In fact, when I started messing with...

    2011 RTV 500 Low Compression

The fact that both cylinders have no compression doesn't make me think of timing belt right away, given also the fact that the intake is "blowing air out". What are the chances both intake valves could be open at the same time ever, much less with a broken timing belt? Is it possible they went...
