How many working hours before you sharpen lawn cutting blades?

I inspect my blades periodically as well as look at the cut of the grass. In addition to cutting my own yard, which has many trees which drop seeds and leaves/small branches (sweetgum and pine), a few times a year I mow a field which has tall clumpy grass and plenty of tall ant hills. I use an...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

That's a long cheater bar! Glad you got those nuts broke loose. I have a set of old (now called vintage) craftsman pocket sockets which I've used with mallet/sledge to beat nuts lose before. Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

It works, but it's It "works", I can say that much about it. I bought it years ago as it was cheap and I was interested in learning and wasn't sure if I'd enjoy it. Lately I've gotten into it more and I have more projects (keep coming up with more every day) where welding will be involved...

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

I understand. Right now I only own flux core welder. I am in the market (I started another thread here about it) for a better welder that supports gas. Right now I'm limited to 110v but will be adding 240 and creating a weld-safe area in my garage. I still will have need to weld outside and...

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

I've been watch many youtube videos, Tim Welds, weld.com, am fab and a few others. I learned about a few from responses here that I've been watching. I am finding welding is like bowling, anyone can do it, but not everyone bowls a 300. Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

Yeah, I was concerned about penetration, another reason why I wanted to "stress test" it pulling the logs. And yes, friends have heard of my welding and have already indicated they could use my help. A friend who welds is like a friend with a truck, always a request for help  Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

Those look nice, well done! I like the round design instead of D shape I did. I cut out the inside of D with jigsaw, haven't cut steel like this before so was a first for me. I did a lot of grinding with dremel to clean up the wobbly lines. Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

no gas, as pointed out, fcaw and weld outside. one reason it looks so bad is cheap welder and multiple passes as welder isn't rated for 1/4". Dan

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

that often happens to me, start doing a simple task that turns into a multi-day project. Need to stop creating work for myself.

That's a cool project. Can't say I've ever seen a mower with a winch before :) Well done! Dan

Mine was stronger than its original purpose and was strong enough for what I did with it. 😜 Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

Haven't checked high Schools, local colleges don't offer any part-time classes (one is really more like full time Mon-thur 5-10p). Haven't found any yet that offer weekend classes. There are a few weld fab shops around, maybe I'll just call a few and inquire. Dan

If I knew anyone who welded, I'd ask for lessons :) Good to have people like that around. Bartering isn't dead (yes, alcohol and food are considered bartering). Dan

That makes me a grinder! Along those lines, my favorite welding related quote "If you can't be a good welder or cutter, be a good grinder." Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

It's something I've been interested in for a long time, but never really started. I owned the welder for well over a decade before I really started using it. I have projects, so I picked it back up again. My "hobbies" are all expensive. Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

That's the goal (after getting a better welder). Plus, I was lazy and used the rattle can black I already had for my trailer and didn't want to buy grey or orange. Next one will be better looking and a more suitable color. Dan

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

A couple notes on "Why". I made one for each side of the tractor as tiedowns for securing it to my trailer when transporting. I wanted to fab up something start to finish, that's why I opted not using weld-on D-ring. Plus, I thought the potential for the D-ring bouncing around would drive...

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

Dragging a sweetgum trunk up creek bank. It fell a couple weeks ago in rain, it was on far side of creek bank and flowing creek washed away the base and it fell over. The stump of a previous tree I cut down on the near side of the bank kept it from crashing through my fence - dodged a bullet...

    BX2380 & FEL Mounting

I've had issues with this before on my 2380. I had to spend time wedging wood under one side to lift it so both arms attached. Bent my grill guard and scratched the paint on the hood. Apparently my driveway outside house isn't very level and was uneven enough to cause issues. Now I drop it off...

Terrible looking but functional tiedown bracket

I'm a new welder, teaching myself fcaw. Here is my second weld project, 1/2" D style tie down point for when hauling my BX2380. Had a tree (sweetgum) on far side of small creek fallover in recent heavy rain. Used the homemade mount point with chain to drag the trunk up the creekbank. I had to...
