What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I just checked my pile with the thermometer probe. Just barely above ambient, but it should start cooking good any day now. At least it ain't still frozen!

What did you do to or on your Kubota today?

I called my dealer wanting to know where mine is. Turns out it's still at the Port of Entry and they don't even have a firm date when it'll go on the truck. Gah. Patience is NOT one of my virtues...

What do you use for a welder?

I'm a self-taught junkyard welder. I took a couple of Adult Ed classes to get started, then bought myself a Lincoln SP135 Mig with the gas regulator. Did quite a lot with that, learning as I went. Then I went to work for a fish cannery and got to play with some REAL welders. Got a lot of...

What kind of chainsaw you have?

Another Stihl man here. Just little guys for working up firewood and trimming, but both are beasts. OLD beasts...an 025 and an 011

    Spring

Oh, I know. I lived in South Carolina near Charleston for 3 years and the panhandle of Florida for 5 years before that (Navy). Plus I was stationed in the Philippine Islands for a year and change. Ain't much you can tell me about heat and humidity. Which is why I live in Maine. Kinda hard...

    Spring

 Yer a cruel man, Mr. Todd! I was JUST starting to see more bare ground than snow and we got a lovely 3 inches of heavy, wet slop overnight. I about lost it when I looked out the kitchen window at daylight. Supposed to have a "wintery mix" with an ice topping tonight/tomorrow then it...

Problem drilling holes in L3800 grill guard

I have one that worked GREAT for a couple of years and then not so much. I suspect that the stone inside is worn. Also, I was seriously embarrassed by a guy I worked with that could free-hand a bit on a grinder and produce a better edge in 10 seconds than I could in 10 minutes with the DD.

What Causes A Cable to Do This?

Re: What Causes A Cable to Do This? (Pictures Added) You'll probably get a better technical explanation, but my (limited) experience is that the curling of the cable is primarily due to the way the individual wires are laid (twisted) together when the cable is made up. A hard pull will stretch...

    Factory extended warranties

Typically, I'd agree that extended warranties are mainly a cash-cow for the dealer. I'm two-for-three personally. First time I sprung for an EW was on a 2001 Dodge Dakota I bought used. Just shortly before I finished paying for it, the clockspring mechanism in the steering wheel broke which...

Awesome dogs / Crazy pets Thread

Not really an option due to her extreme sensitivity to medications in general and the fact that she's personally resistant to taking any med that isn't a matter of life and death. In other words, not a battle I'm willing to fight...

Problem drilling holes in L3800 grill guard

IANAM (I am not a machinist) but I've always been taught that the proper drill, properly sharpened, used once is a MUCH better approach to large holes. Starting small and working up puts all the stress on the outer wings of the cutting edge and is much more likely to result in an overheated and...

    homemade bushings

I think you'd be better served to either find, or have made, some hardened bushings. There's a LOT of stress on loader pivot points and you'll wear out black iron very quickly even with conscientious lubrication. I'd expect the softer bronze would be even worse. Try McMaster-Carr or Graingers...

    16' Equipment Trailer ???

Actually a piece of 4x4, but yes, I do have to shim it, depending on the exact attitude of the truck and trailer. I'm limited in how long I can make the jack foot due to the angle iron top rail immediately above the assembly. If I had to do it over again, I'd move the mount outboard enough...

    16' Equipment Trailer ???

I did that on my 18' trailer. MAJOR improvement. I also added a Reese receiver on the tongue to plug in my portable winch for winching dead vehicles or other rolling items up onto the trailer. I have one on my 10 footer as well. Handier than a pocket on a shirt.

Mustabeen newer than my '88 model, no hood interlock on that one.

    16' Equipment Trailer ???

bh115577's point about backing is well taken. The longer the distance between the hitch ball and the trailer axle, the easier it is to back. At the moment, I have 3 trailers: an 18 foot equipment trailer, a 10 foot "landscaping" trailer and an 8 foot cargo trailer. That little 8 footer will...

    for us older guys

Been doing that for a while now. Overhauled the engine in my motorcycle this year, took LOTS of pictures as I took it apart, then printed them out on my laser printer and pinned them to the bulletin board over my work bench when I got ready to put it back together. Particularly handy if it's...

Awesome dogs / Crazy pets Thread

Fernando Llama. He's gone now, but he was a hoot while he was here. Not at all unusual to see him in the mud room checking to see the there were any apples in the bucket. Used to frolick with the lambs and play tag with the dog. I'd laugh until I couldn't stand up watching him go "boinking"...

    Block Heaters

Couple of questions: 1. What is the total wattage that switch is handling? Most of the ones I see are rated for <1000 watts. I'd expect one (much less three...) heater would pretty well overwhelm a 1KW switch. 2. I haven't measured it, but I'd estimate my barn is nearly 200 feet from the...

    Switching Outlet for block heater

My new toy will live in the barn about 200 feet from the house. I'm looking for a way to control a single outlet so I can turn the block heater on from the house when I get up and have the tractor warmed up and ready to start when I need to blow snow. Most of the wirelessly controlled outlets...
