    Moore's Law

Light travels at the same speed as electricity (close to it). While it may not speed things up directly, it will reduce heat for sure.... That said, a single light can carry a large bandwidth of information, carrying lots of data at once (vs single wire trace). How that speeds up a CPU engine...

    Something to warm

Wish I could see more of the bike lol... A few years ago I visited a fellow who restored many motorcycles to mint condition. Many are Hondas, but he has many others, including some racing bikes. I liked the Susuki rotary engine bike, and the massive 6 cylinder Honda. A viewing only link...

    Moore's Law

Moore's law is based on number of transistors per chip. Generally this has equated to compute power at the same time. However, Moore's law ignores one higher level "law", the laws of physics. Electrons can only travel at near the speed of light, no faster. This prevents CPUs from talking to...

    Puter geeks

Sounds like something locked up in the power supply, or certain signals from it to the motherboard. The front power button on computers only works if the power supply (PSU) is actually running, and providing a small amount of voltage to the power button to send to the motherboard to "start". The...

    Towing with BX23s - BT603 Backhoe

The BX23 tractor itself is around 1500-1550 lbs. However, with the FEL and backhoe on it, you are closer to 2500-2600 lbs. That is getting real close to most single axle 3500lb trailer load limits. Keep that in mind... Re-reading the post: I would never tow any trailer with the backhoe...

    Wheels for snowblower

Double wheels will be better for the "sinking in" problem. However, make sure those wheels are as large a diameter as possible. Small wheels will likely jam up or drag more than larger wheels. If the wheels lock up or drag, no amount of width will help. I think the issue is to keep the wheels...

    Wheels for snowblower

I did a similar thing, using heavy duty trailer jacks. See my post: http://www.orangetractortalks.com/forums/showthread.php?t=38301 Now, to report on the good and "bad" about that design. First of all, it generally works. I have not blown a shear pin from rocks so far this year. Started with...

    BX25 Snowblower

I used to have an older tractor with a rear 3pt blower. Always got a sore neck from it. Went to a skid steer after that, which was fine with a snow bucket, but it was an old machine and repairs every year was just too much. Went to my BX25 with a front blower after that and have not regretted it...

    Tire Chains On BX2670

I would avoid chains on the front tires of a 4WD tractor. When you turn, the front wheels are moving at different surface rates, and need to slip somewhat. Putting chains on will increase the resistance to slipping and thus increase stresses on the front gears. In theory at least... In Winter...

    Neighbor's cow eating our hedge

Without making steak or burgers from them, try blending a lot of Cayenne pepper (or hotter peppers if you can find it), with some water and spray the hedge with the mixture. Unless the cows have "mexican tastes", they may not like the spicy flavor of the hedge. The mixture should not hurt the...

Don't let this happen to you

Bearbait, I feel for her. About 2 years ago, I sliced my finger in about the same spot ( a bit closer to the knuckle), 5 stitches. To this day, I have some numbness along the side of the finger from that cut (it was deep...) Come to think of it, same finger, same hand... Hm.. maybe your wife and...

    BX23 weight

No way that snow machine trailer, with those small wheels, can carry a BX23S. I would not even use it to haul a bare tractor either. I just don't think that axle is heavy duty enough. Most snow machines weigh in around 500lb, +/- some. That trailer is probably rated 1000lb or maybe 1200lb load...

    BX23 weight

Assuming my BX25 is about the same, I believe the total weight with FEL and BH is around 2500-2600 lbs For the BT601 hoe, weight alone is 578lb without bucket. LA240 FEL is 375lb and bucket is 132lb. The BX23s would have similar weights

    Train Porn

I was on vacation in Cuba several years ago, and on one tour, I got to sit in the engineer's seat of an old Soviet steam engine that was pulling a tourist tour. Once we were rolling along, I mentioned to the actual "engineer" that their crossing signal is exactly the same in Canada (_ _ . _), as...

Cab Heater - OK to Mount in Ceiling?

I think heater placement depends somewhat on the volume of hot air the heater provides. Rule #1 is that hot air rises, so for smaller tractors, I can see placing the heater near floor level, keep your feet warm, and let the heat rise. If you can push a lot of air with the heater fan, high up is...

Portable generator used to run most of the house

Great job. Enjoy it when the power goes out. Myself, I have a 7.5kW automatic start generator running off my large 2000L (about 500gal?) propane tank that I use for heat and hot water. I hate running out to refuel gas generators, especially when they are hot. With a relatively full propane tank...

New kubota orange paint (very close).

If any of you guys are close to the Canadian border, be sure to check out our Home Hardware stores. They carry spray "Rust Paint" labelled Kubota Orange, exact match from what I can tell. They also sell JD Green and NH Blue in spray cans, for those of you having different machines. A spray can...

    My BX2750D snowblower modification

I park the blower/tractor in a shed/garage with a concrete floor. Easy to look at the front to adjust the height. Settings are not critical, whether it is 1.5" or 1.75", who really cares as long as I don't suck up gravel into the blower. Reply to Yooper: As for plastic wheel sliding on ice or...

    My BX2750D snowblower modification

The theory with the wheels is that they rotate on top of the gravel, not slide. True, if they seize up (or freeze up), they will simply skid into the gravel just like the skids. Wider wheels would be better, but hard to find those in a trailer jack that has the weight rating, and a low mounting...
