I don't know your tractor but from a physics/dimensional perspective, if up doesn't work and down is close, would "more down" better align the Zerk to the access hole? More down meaning, maybe you could drop the bucket into a depression (below horizontal) like the ditch next to your lawn or...

I don't know your tractor, but have decades of experience with vehicles and 2-way radios. If it were me, I'd mount it overhead if at all possible. This way, you can actually hear the thing if someone needs to reach you. That, and it'll never get coffee, salty boot slop or mud spilled into it.
