    Net Zero

We (son an I) are looking at building wood gasifiers. We have unlimited firewood from downed trees here. Should be carbon neutral right? There are no rules against burning firewood, yet. I suppose using mules for farming would not count as carbon neutral.

Good / Effective over the counter Weed Killer..?

As far as poison ivy vines in trees, it's best to sever the vines near the base of the tree first. Use a hatchet or machete. Spray any ivy resprouts near the tree. I've never killed a tree using the method. I have killed several invasive trees with triclypr; Bradford Pear and Tree of Heaven. To...

Good / Effective over the counter Weed Killer..?

For poison ivy, use triclypr. I use it for that, all kinds of briers, bush honeysuckle, Japanese honeysuckle, and other invasive brush. TSC sells a generic called Brush Tox.

I acquired this Redmax blower a couple of years ago. Looks like Redmax is part of Zenoah, which is a division of Komatsu.

    Living in the past

I used Rain-X refills on my Chevy Colorado after the factory ones were toast. I changed the factory wipers to Rain-X at about 20,000 miles. I've got about 54,000 miles on the vehicle now and used only one Rain-X set. I wipe them off once in a while, lots of tree pollen around here.

    Lawnmower options

I mow about 5 acres with my rotary cutter. There are places where it's too dangerous to mow due to slopes. The roadside ditches and banks have too much slope. For these, I use the DR Brush Cutter Pro Max 34. Per the manual, it's good for 20° slopes, but I've mowed much steeper. If it ever got...

INSURANCE Rates for Farm & Ranch? Combined with Auto?

I bought a new 2016 Chevy Colorado 4x4 in July of 2016. We lived in the Detroit area at the time. My son managed to "almost" total it by running into a tree the following November. It was $500 away from being totaled; the frame was bent in the front. State Farm judged that it should be repaired...

INSURANCE Rates for Farm & Ranch? Combined with Auto?

My Homeowners Policy (State Farm) covers all of my acreage, woods, fields for liability. We have our vehicles and tractor insured through them as well. Have been with them since 1990. Prior to moving back to the family farm, I had a separate liability policy under Farm Bureau for the acreage. It...

    Fishing for implements

Looks like a transplanter. With the exception of the cultivators, it looks similar to tobacco transplanters used back in the 70s - 80s. Is tobacco raised in that area?

    Kubota 400 ci backfire issue

Backfiring is a sign that the engine is running too lean. Check for intake air leaks between the carburetor and engine. I had a dirt bike that was backfiring when decelerating. The exhaust was glowing red as well. I added copper based sealant to the boot that connects the carb to the engine...
