    Buck came to visit

I wish I was a hunter. Every morning when I take the Dingo out, there are always deer bedded down outside. Sometimes I think they find our place a safe haven. Momma and her babies like the clover we planted in the yard.

Do you make or grow everything you consume? If not, it affects you.

    Things are looking up !

Guess there is some punctuation missing in: I read that as worldwide (global) inflation.

    Things are looking up !

The dollar is weak. It's not so much gouging as it is that it takes more dollars to buy the same amount of goods compared to 2018. Coupled with years of record inflation, even a 0% inflation would not moderate prices much. Not sure where you got the 2.5% for global inflation. Forbes has it at...

    What's cookin' boys?

There is a difference in what binder is used IMO. The best I have found to date are Rural King branded and Pit Boss. They both feed well and don't leave an acrid taste. Traeger branded pellets may or may not. I can't bring myself to buy them at 2x the price. Wood fired smokers like the one I...

    What's cookin' boys?

It's not cooking.... yet. Burning in a new smoker for Thanksgiving. Been doing the pellet thing, but I'm gonna get back to my roots. 8th inch plate barrel. Got a stack of oak and mesquite to mix for the night. Hoping to have a couple burns before Thanksgiving eve.

    Things are looking up !

We are right at the $3 mark on average for gas. I had to look it up, so take it for what you will. I only use E0 gasoline. Diesel is around the $3.15 range. Give or take where the station is and brand. Typically speaking, falling gas/ diesel prices are not a good thing. Prices do come down...

    Which types of grease?

Spindle bearings? Depends on the bearings. I would use a NLGI 2 grease if there any question to what bearings. Doubtful they are needle, but moly can cause needle bearings to slide not roll.

    Things are looking up !

If the line is short (1 or 2 people) I let them look at my stuff. Any more than that and I just walk around and leave. Sometimes they say something. Other times not. When they do, I'm polite but just say I've been checked twice. I know you are doing your job, but I'm not waiting.

    Which types of grease?

Personally, for the tractor only, I use ONE grease only. The 3% moly grease (pick your brand) covers everything and is suitable for everything on a utility tractor. There are no roller/ ball / needle bearings that are condmsidered high speed. It is a lithium complex grease and (depending on...

    Which types of grease?

And that's fine. I'm sure Crisco would work also. So would bacon grease. But every single supplier of petroleum grease says that there are types you should not mix because it negatively impacts the lubrication qualities. Edit: maybe you misread "lubrication manufacturer recommemds" as...

    Which types of grease?

No failures on tractors. Sure. Pins, pivots and joints will ne OK. Probably everything else on a small tractor. That doesn't make it good practice to go against what the lubrication manufacturers recommend. There have been, and continue to be, failures on truck, trailer and machinery bearings...

    Ballast weights

Here, they now charge shops to dispose of the "recycleables" they used to haul for free. Oil, tires, batteries and rotors. It used to be they would do it for free and make their money on the back end. If the shop hauled the steel and batteries to the yard themselves, they could get some cash.

    Prepping "OJ" For The Winter

My uncles nickname was Bing. Uncle Bing. He could croon EXACTLY like Crosby. He would cover Christmas songs and you couldn't tell the difference!

    Ballast weights

$2 / lb has been the going rate for steel for a while. Suitcase, kettle bell, barbell..... at least for the past 4 years or so. If you want to go cheap, fab something up and use truck brake rotors. The 1 ton brakes are about 50 lbs each. Most brake shops will give you as many as you want.

What's up with some new members?

In real life, it seems to me that people who think they are smart are less likely to take advice. On the interwebs, some people just want a definite answer. They don't understand why folks can't diagnose something from thousands of miles away.

    Which types of grease?

I disagree. You will not get all the old grease out. If you are switching between polyurea and lithium soap, the previously used grease should be completely cleaned out using a solvent based cleaner. The two types do not react well with each other.
