    Yes, to do the valves yourself. You would probably need to purchase a kit with the guides in it, but it's really not that tough to do. I'm sure you can find plenty on YouTube to show how.

    Cost me a $150 to have a machine shop mill and magnaflux my head, I lath my valves and use an OEM head gasket. That has to be cheaper and better than what you're looking at.

    When I rebuild stuff I might run it for 5 seconds. Why take that chance? I wasn't impressed with the oiling of the parts in the first place. Like you were waiting for it to seize.

    Joe, if the pistons went in comfortably tight, your valves are adjusted, and that was a wet test, it sounds like your valves are not seated adequately. You need to get the compression within 10% of each other. You put in new valve guides?

    Try putting the appropriate outrigger down to see if you can get the fluid level to move so you can see it. Side to side or front to back.

    How about that cheap HF hand Transfer pump. I believe Mine was around $10 on sale.
