Old style PTO shaft compatibility

Bought a used 3ph Hurd sander ($600). New ones run in the $3-4K range. Unfortunately, the PTO shaft is too short and is of the old square telescoping tubing style. Also, the sander side of the PTO shaft is permanently affixed with no collar that slides off. Do they make some sort of square tubing extension kit? If not, would a weld shop be able to extend the shaft? I'd also happily get a new PTO shaft but what do I do about the sander end of the shaft which has no collar fitting?
Guess this is what happens when buying used equipment. All thoughts, suggestions, verbal abuse welcome. Thanks.

yes, local weld shop SHOULD be able to help you. tubing may not be square ! On my Ford tiller, it was rectangular, so you couldn't misalign the yokes.....

Yep, if they make something like that.. It would have to be on tractor side. I'll have to crawl under in the snow and measure. Only place I'm aware of is TSC in my area. Thanks.

If it's only a few inches short, PTO overrunning clutch might work

Yes you can get square pto shaft parts. Bothe male and female ends. I would measure it first as they do make rectangular sliding shafts as well.

But by the time you get that figured out you could probably buy a new shaft from Amazon and replace it. Just need someone who is skilled with a cutting torch to get that yoke off the other shaft.

Of course pics and measurements would help.

A truck driveline/driveshaft shop might be able to help you out.

As far as dimensions go:

What is the width of the smaller square shaft ?
How much too short do you think it is (does it not even reach the larger shaft)?

I can buy that rectangle PTO shaft at the local farm store.
I looked around and a lot of places sell the shafts you just need to know the measurements.
But if you can't buy a longer shaft, I don't recommend these, but they are all sold.
