Seems like yesterday there were taps in the maple trees and tubing throughout our place.
Today looks like the leaves are starting to turn.
Our heating season started Tuesday, August 20.

It has been a weird few months in NW MT in terms of the weather. Late yesterday afternoon I took this photo from the deck and it feels like summer is over already, not that we had much of a summer other than a couple of weeks of unusually hot weather. I find myself a little melancholy at the thought of summer coming to an end, but I love the fall and lead up to Christmas.
I'm heading to Illinois for work this afternoon, and it's up in the high 90s all next week. Oh joy!

Fresh snow on all the surrounding mountains above 7500 feet elevation yesterday and today....pic from the BLM fire camera on Tenabo Peak in central Nevada:
Came across this outdoor oven, built many years ago by Basque sheepherders to bake their bread, in a grove of aspen at an elevation of over 7000 feet in one of the most remote parts of Nevada. This thing is huge!
Nearest anything is an Indian Reservation a few miles away but almost no one lives there either. Needless to say, there is also no cell service, and the nearest pavement is about where the nearest gas station is.

There was a decent light show at my house last night. I don't know if anyone actually sees the colors as they appear in photos, but I know I sure don't.
