Hired a roofing company yesterday, gonna put a new galvanized roof on the house we just acquired. The roof didn't pass home inspection and insurance balked at it as well. We did receive $7k in sellers credit, that would have been half to replace with shingles again. But, if you remotely live in an area where wildfires can be a risk(brushlands, forests etc), best to cough up the extra bucks and go with a metal roof!!

I'm also having the roofer meet wind zone requirements. We are a 2nd county inland from the gulf coast. Wind zone 2 is required if within 65miles of the coast. We're approx ~78miles as the crow flies, but the new roof, class 4, will meet wind zone 2 requirements as well.

SS, what brand is the canopy on your tractor? How do you like it?
Landpride, IIRC, if not Kubota, bought with tractor new.

You ROPS already? If I were to replace or add again, I would just go to the junk yard, pull the biggest hood off a car/truck, and paint it Kubota orange and use that.
I often zip tie old/broken fishing poles to front bumper/grill vertically, appox 2in taller than the canopy, the tree limbs always find a way to jump out in front of me, LOL.

I made a canopy a few years ago for the neighbor from an EZGO golf cart top for his raking tractor. They make a nice sturdy canopy and I can get them free nearby. Dr. said my wife needs to stay out of the sun and she does all the mowing, so I need to come up with a solution.

Absolutely! I had a metal roof installed on my house 13 years ago (but it is metal, painted white, not galvanized) when the shingles began curling up and blowing away. The desert sun wreaks havoc with a shingle roof, and so does the wind. The white roof does a great job of reflecting the heat of the desert sun, and has been totally maintenance free...and probably will be maintenance free for the rest of my life.

And as you say, the added benefit is being absolutely fireproof so no worries about flaming debris landing on the roof and catching the house on fire. 17 years ago a wildfire came through and things got really dicey for a few hours...pic taken from my house of my pole barn and the fire:

Nice work! Some people spend more time and money making something look terrible.
Sometimes the challenge is to get the job done with what's in your scrounge box. A trip to town is for losers :)

What about that pipe that goes off to the left and bottom? It was connected to the pipe and now it is not connected. Is it abandoned now or is that something that will be connected later.

I doubt you need to worry about freezing much but do you plan on doing anything for freeze protection?

That other line fed the old gun shop and printing building, I not sure where it goes, but the buildings need to be demolished. I plan on building a well house this fall.
In Feb 2021 when we had the deep freeze, it was below 32* for 3 days straight. I have not explored too much in the old shop yet, but there is a homemade safe that is unlocked and I plan on getting that out. Gonna wait till it gets cold before I really go through those buildings, I want to make sure the rattle snakes are a bit slower, lol.

Look closely at the previous lines, leaves well head 1in, neck down to 3/4' galvanized to 3/4'brass connector to black poly pipe about 3in long, then to 3/4' pvc. From 3/4' pvc to 1' brass T, leaves brass T on 3/4" pvc and the line that crosses the 10 acre pasture is 1.25in pvc pipe. What a disaster. 3/4' pvc is piped into the house, but then converts to pex. the house plumbing was at least done by a plumber, main lines in house are 3/4' pex with a few manifolds to 1/2in lines and those lines feeds sinks and toilets on 1/2' pex etc. At the shop the 1.25in pops up out of the ground with a 3/4' hoses bib.

SS, at my farm well there was/is a concrete pad about 4' square and it has a hand pump. I used an old chest type freezer for the pump house. I drilled a hole through the steel plate on the slab and inserted a 1" PVC with a foot valve. That line comes up into one end of the freezer. The pump set there and the pressure tank is next to the pump. Line comes out the other end to go to the hydrant and automatic waterer.

This works fine ( I was going to say "well"). Been this way for 12 years or so and has never effected by weather. Open the lid to check and service! I put a hasp and lock just to make sure it stays shut.

Crew of 7 showed up. They make their own clips for the panels. The clips will be screwed down every 12in. The 24ga galvanized panel/lip will be double crimpd. Class 4 roof, and will meet wind zone 2 requirements, even though were about 15miles north of the W2 requirement.
