Nice getting the shop closed in. Do you plan on having a/c installed?

Cotton traded for .63 cents in 1977. Today it is trading at .69 cents. In 1977 a new loaded F-250 was $7,500. Today it is nearly $90,000. This is as good of an illustration as I know of concerning the current Ag economy.

While back I mentioned Paul Harvey's "So God Made a Farmer" piece. Was on RFDTV. Had never heard it before.

Heard it many times since.

Reminds of my grandfather and father, especially my grandfather. Born 1911, he's been gone for some time. Dad is 86 and we sold the cows in the '70's.

I was young but remember it well.

After chores, every day we loaded our 10-12 milk cans at our place and made the route to load another 30-40 cans at a bunch of dairies. Some had 1-2, some 10+. Maybe a 30(?) mile route to the Sealtest Plant. One fellow had 2 cans half-full. Half at night and another half in the morning before we arrived.

We unloaded onto a conveyor at the plant When emptied inside, pulled the hot and washed cans off the conveyor outside. They came out on the conveyor upside down with the top sitting on the bottom.....can still smell them when you turned them over.

Made the same route to return empty cans. Did it all again tomorrow......365 days a year.

When we got back, it was time to do field work until chores again about 3PM.

My grandfather was about my current age when he was doing this. My father had a much larger can route a few years earlier. Dad used to stack cans 3-high, which was a real challenge. His back problems today are a testament.

When Paul Harvey says, "finish his 40-hour week at Tuesday noon," he is pretty close.... ;)

Helps a young farm boy learn work ethic too.

Now back to @Siesta Sundance ‘s thread that I enjoy so much. Appreciate a farmer’s tale and journey…..I hope he’s okay with my diversion. 😉

Enjoy the story, it's all about anyone fiddle farming around the farm, I can imagine some on here are full timers, part timers and frequent visitors to farming and ranching. I miss listening to PH in the mornings. I'm technically 1st generation, my father and siblings moved to the city because his dad past when he was pretty young. Many of my great unkles and aunt and their family stayed into farming/cattle.

Installed some new seat covers on the mule. I had newish seat covers already on the mule but these were free and I was paid to put some new ones on, win, win.
