If means that you don't ever have to change the oil for 15 years or 500,000 miles, however, if you use in in the tractor, all bets are off how long it will last.

What does it mean on the label saying "15 years or 500K"
It's meaningless marketing drivel .... and worse yet, even the idea doesn't apply for tractor use.

"Vehicles used, registered or leased for off-road, agricultural or competition purposes do not qualify for the Shell Rotella® Lubrication Limited Warranty."

Never saw that before! Do you think they EVER would pay out no matter the documentation?
Agree with mcmxi

But it's good enough for me to use :p

Not applicable to your application in a tractor.

Irrespective of warranty for automotive operations, you should change the friggin oil when it should be. The labelled service interval means nothing to me.

Due to lack of hours/use, I've stretched my service interval of Rotella T6 5w-40 from 12 months to 16 months or so. I'd never go 5 years.

My Chevy truck takes 0w-20. Of course, full synthetic. I still change it at 5,000 miles or so.

Not going to start another motor oil argument, but the labels don't necessarily tell all for real-life conditions.

Just my opinion.

I just wouldn't use rotella. Seems like whenever an engine is torn down that's on that oil it's full of sludge. It's really an overhyped, overpriced, under performing oil.

So what you are saying is that the second largest oil producer in the world make an OIL that produces sludge???? And it is overhyped, overpriced, under performing oil?

If it was April 1st - I would fall for it, but being that it is not, I'll just think good thoughts and hope the Easter bunny brought you some good treats!

O and by the way - just to clarify - sludge is not a by product of oil - it is a by product of stupid humans that do NOT change their oil - ANY oil will turn to sludge after a certain point in time if not changed or short trips that occur often.

So the basis of your argument is because it has a large share of oil production that it's good? So that must mean China has really good electronics since they produce the most...

No my basis is basis on experience and scientific facts, not assumptions.

Injectors or glow plugs will destroy an engine long before lubrication problems when the oil is changed by the manufacturer recommended intervals.

Well, not to argue the color of black with you but :

So your first article has no "scientific fact" that you claimed you had and the video is comparing rotella to 1 other brand...I guess I'm still waiting for your claimed "facts"

17 days as a member and 14 posts you are starting an oil war. This must be an all-time record!

Not sure I'd call this a war. I made a simple statement based on personal experience of myself and a handful of people I know that either drive hot shot truck or semis. I made no claim based on a youtube video. I've personally seen and engine torn down for rebuild using only shell, full of baked on sludge, and another time with an engine run on northland oil, same intervals, same engine model, similar miles and the latter was nearly spotless. That only has me convinced rotella isn't all it made up to be.

I use Valvoline blue extreme synthetic diesel oil. Just because it’s endorsed by Cummins.

Let’s settle this like men. I’ve seen enough sticks, that I have a pretty good idea what you will see on the inside by looking at it…

So let’s whip it out, show your stick and tell us a little about it. BX guys don’t worry, we’re not looking for the longest one. None of ours holds a candle to Flips any way.

I’ll show mine first

Unknown hours on the oil, T6 5w40, gets a yearly oil change this time of year, haven’t done it yet. 550 hrs on the tractor, has been run on rotella since 12 hrs
