I have a L3710 with a Woods backhoe and a Schwartz loader. It weighs right at 5000 pounds. The only trailer I have is a 16 foot trailer I built from a travel trailer. I beefed the frame up and put better tires on it. It does what I need it to do, Yes I wish I had a bigger trailer. If your buying new buy as big as you can afford. Bob

Congratulations on a nice trailer.

Now go get some water sealer and put it on the boards.

Especially if it's going to be kept out in the weather.
I already did that early this afternoon. ;)

I'm going to build a simple framework so I can cover it with a trap to keep the snow off it.

Picked up the trailer yesterday. My Neighbor tagged along to look at a Ferris is600z zero turn, it was on the home from the trailer dealer. Turned out to be a nice unit. It was a 2013 with 219 hours, super clean!

The trailer was a little "bouncy" feeling with nothing on it. Once the ZT on it, it was super smooth...didn't even know it was there!!! I think it needed a little tongue weight. Had the "Brake Gain" set to 3 and the truck stopped like the trailer wasn't there. Really happy with it!!! AND the best part is...I averaged 23.2 mpg driving home with the trailer!! :D

Bought it in NH...they had to shovel a little snow off it...that time of year!!!

AGAIN...thanks for all your input and suggestions!!!!!!!

Good Morning...I'm looking for a trailer to transport my B3030 tractor. It had a loader and backhoe, combined it's just under 4K pounds. The trailer I'm looking at is a new 18' RICE Trailer. It has a GVWR of 7K. I'll be towing it with a new Silverado 1500 with the 3.0 Duramax diesel, which has a tow capacity of 9K.

I rented a trailer back when I bought the tractor, and that's the only time it's been towed. Just wanted to get any thoughts/recommendations on this before purchasing one.

Thanks,
Glenn
You didn't mention if the trailer was steel or alum. construction. With steel probably close to your gvwr's. If alum. not so. Length should be fine for your 3030 and truck no issue with that diesel. Attached is what I have. 18' alum. 9,900 GVW Sure-trac. 16' flat, 2' beaver tail with ladder ramps. Probably a little overkill for my bx but wanted enough trailer should I decided to go with larger tractor. Trailer weights approx. 1,750# with front box and tie down accessories.

That's a nice lookin trailer!!!!

I ended up buying the 18' 10K trailer this past Saturday...it's steel. EVW is 2,775 lbs. With the tractor I figure I'll be around 7K. Truck GVWR is 9,000 lbs. I plan on installing a Curt TruTrack 4P Weight Distribution Hitch that has anti-sway as well.

I heartily endorse the use of a weight distribution hitch.
I have the 14K Equal-i-zer hitch, and find it to be very effective.

I figure I'll be around 7K...8K tops, so I'm looking at the 8K distribution hitch even though the trailer is rated at 9990. From what I've read, you want to match the WDH to the trailer load it will be seeing, and not the max GVWR.

I disagree.....
I would buy the hitch for the rated capacity of the trailer.

I'll contact Curt directly and ask....thanks!!
A couple of years ago I bought the Curt short trunnion bar weight distribution hitch with sway control and also purchased a 2-1/2" shank from Curt to match the receiver on my truck. I opted for 17422 which is rated up to 15,000lb to match the capacity of the trailers that I tow. I towed the M6060 more than 600 miles from Sheridan, WY to Kalispell and it was a good trip with no drama, maybe in part due to the Curt WDH.

Given the cost of these things and the minimal difference between 17500 and 17422 it would make sense to chose the higher rating.

Built an easily removable frame to support the 12'x25' tarp. Got a good deal on a nice 16mil tarp on Amazon. Should do a good job of keeping the snow and rain off for the winter.
