Hi Wolfman have not worked on the 8540 lost my Dad and hard to keep my mind in a better place
Need to replace the pinion gear and propeller shaft..is there a easy way to replace the pinion gear without disassemble the frontaxel

Hope this helps, I am not the best at computer stuff. There are four different "D" versions of your tractor, so I just picked the first one. 3C09197080 bevel gear kit. They all seem to use the same kit.

Is there a simple way to replace the bevel ..pinion? Gear without disabling the front.

I am not sure. The pinion comes out by removing #50 snap ring. Whether you can do this with the axle in place or not, I am not sure. It looks like you should be able to, but I don't know if the oil pan would be in the way or not. I am just going by the parts break down, and have no hands on knowledge. Hope this helps.

You can replace the pinion without pulling the axle out, but you will have to drop it down to get the rear carrier off.
That will allow you to get the seal, snap ring, shims, bearing, spacer, bearing and pinion out the back.

But the ring gear require some disassembly of the axle to get to the gear.
