My well is 196' deep, and the water coming up is cold even with temps in triple digits..
Only problem is it pumps into 3 black holding tanks and it gets warm. Actually it gets hot. When I unscrew the lid on one steam vapor actually come out.
I have to turn the water flow through on my tankless water heater to try and get the water cooler since the default minimum setting is 101deg.
Summer in Texas.

Looking at long term forecast, looks like we might be back to somewhat normal temperatures in 2 weeks. But rain probability doesn't look to good until last week in August.

Used the hoe to hold up logs for cutting in to rounds. Kinda annoying jumping on and off the machine, but very nice on the back compared to cutting on the ground. Plus I need to do everything I can to justify the purchase!

Went out after work and pulled the driveway up the hill. One of the culvert pipes got clogged up and the water ran down the hill taking a lot of the gravel with it. We have had 3.89" of rain in the last two days. We went from no ran for almost a month to over 4.5" in the last seven days.

I didn't get any pictures, I started on it before I thought about it.

It was a little hot out, but not as bad as it has been. We have had days to it has gotten 100+.

Loaded up. Who's ready to dig an emergency water service in the rain? This guy (well, not really). Its' going to be really greasy. I sure wouldn't mind if it were rescheduled for another day. I won't get wet, but it'll sure be sweaty. If only big K would offer AC in these...

water service went without a hitch. had to cross the gas line, but we found it early on and were able to dive under it... no rain at all today, only last night with heavy thunderstorm put down .5 inch plus.! unreal. I thought for sure this one would get rescheduled.

Start (very steep embankment made for a bit of puckering for sure ;)) It doesn't look as bad in pics.

I did get another newbie to dig some today. He's leaving the job for another in western PA so I wanted to give him a shot on the sticks before he left. He did well and seemed to really enjoy it.

Found a dead deer in one of the fields on the property while mowing and used the forks for dispatching. Took it way out back in the woods. The buzzards and coyotes will be happy.
Any clue what killed it? Chronic Wasting Disease is becoming a problem down here in the south.

Took the little girl for a walk in the woods this morning. Not sure how I would manage without a tractor or grapple. Sure is helpful moving the rounds and sections of branches and holding branch to working height. Put another dent in the tree this morning…rain got here by late morning so I had to stop. I did not have a measuring tape but at an estimated 20-25 feet up the trunk at the 2nd fork the bottom of the fork is close to the OAL of the saw (in the pic…that’s the bottom of the fork). That’s a black walnut tree…there was some damage and bugs at the bottom but I think I am going to keep that log (that saw is sitting on in pic)and buy chain saw mill and try making some slabs to use in the wood shop. Anyone use a chain saw mill? Any advice or recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.
Made another dent in it…ran out of go go juice again. it’s mostly done now just waiting on the mill to show up…I found a local with a portable and we are going to try to see if we can get it down the hill with a SS to handle the log…hopefully I’ll have some slabs drying within a few weeks.

Not sure, it was close to the road but there was no trama kind of damage that I could see. I was thinking hit by a vehicle and had internal damage but was able to crawl into the field where it laid down and died.

My wife mowed our bale yard in preparation for the brome bales.

After that, we found a well a neighbor had told us about. Water is 17’ down & at least 8’ deep (only had a 25’ tape measure). I will have to check this out.

We worked on cleaning up some dead trees around the farm house. One nephew was on the MF383, the other was using my Kubota.

This tree was an issue because it had fence wire running through it. I kept making cuts on it and realizing that I was going to wire. Finally decide to just push it over and clean up the mess.

I leave the twine/bolt nearby so I can gauge the water level any time. Putting a tape measure down into water is sometimes difficult to know when the end of the tape is at the water's edge because of any movement down there! And I don't risk losing a good tape measure.

I will do something like that to see how deep it is. It has not been used since the mid 1990s. The tape came back pretty cold & clean, just wet. It amazes me that someone(s) dug & lined with rock at least 25’.
There is another well with an old windmill that is 5’-6’ wide & 42’ deep (I was told). I will check that well too.

Dug up a partially ground oak stump from some trees I had taken down about 4 years ago. One of the reasons I don’t like grinding stumps is that they will always wind up being sink holes, but the grinding was part of the price for removal. Within a year, a 4 inch tall and very solid chunk of this one was trying to kill my mower. Started digging on it a couple days ago, but got rained out, so finished the job today.

The TEE post in the photo is my homemade stump puller. I used a subsoiler and stump bucket to cut/break most of the roots, and a pickaxe to get a couple I couldn’t get to with the tractor. Wrapped the chain under the root stubble and over the puller, and Bob’s yer uncle. This is actually the second piece I pulled out. I got some out on the first dig that looked like a totally separate older stump, which was also charred. There’s a pretty good sized mound in my front yard that I’m almost positive was an old homestead which was razed when this neighborhood was built, and all the trash and debris was covered by clay from the excavation for the foundation of my house. We pick up at least a pound of broken glass every time it rains. If I can get a good layer of centipede going, that’ll solve the problem with most of the glass. This stump always seemed to be leeching some kind of smelly black ooze that looked like used motor oil, but apparently it was from the older stump under it. The soil has a very smoky smell to it where I dug it up, but I’ve been here 20 years and know for a fact there hasn’t been anything burned out there since I’ve been here.
I also brought a couple bucket loads of compost and soi to fill in the divot from the stumpin’. Gotta get some grass seed and straw to cover it before it rains again.
When I finished with the front yard, I pushed the edges of my giant compost heap up on top of the pile and did a little boxblading to fill in another stump hole from a gigantic sweetgum that got knocked over last winter.
Made a bit of a mess on the tractor tending the compost heap, so hosed it off and knocked most of the mud outta the treads. Came up on the porch with a cold smoked porter homebrew, and wrote this while I was cooling off.
