I would think that the number of cold starts to get to that 400 hours is relevant in terms of oil health. Some of us will want to change oil based on the calendar rather than the hour meter. I have two tractors which reduces the hours on each, but 100 to 150 hours per year per tractor isn't unreasonable. I'm much more likely to change oil every 200 hours or 18 months.The new engines only require oil changes at 400 hours because they are not blowing the exhaust back into the inside of the engine and making dirty oil.
